Hi, This is my first post, I've owned 3 favorable Buicks, Still have one, and some other stuff, like my new toy in my avatar. This story is actually about my best friend.............summer 1992, We had finished installing the olds 403 into John's '79 LeSabre (scrapped that stupid 301), but the Olds exhaust was difficult to mate to what the car had because of the way the olds y-pipe was designed. The stock tranny crossmember did not fascilitate dual exhust either. And we were on a strict budget. The exhaust was always waiting to come apart right there, and did so about once a week. Also the B&M kit we put in the th350 didn't help since the car really had to scream to upshift ..........this is setting something up, I PROMISE !.........So it's about 1:AM one particular night, John is driving up one of Erie's more main roads, and stops for a traffic light. A newer Firebird pulls up alongside the Lesabre, which was looking REAL good. The firebird driver is talking on his cell phone, a luxury here in '92, he's got a smirk on his face as he talks, and is eyeing the LeSabre jokingly as it lopes along at idle. John knew the guy was telling somebody or another that he was about to smoke a Buick, so he got ready and watched the light. When the light turned, the firebird launched, with the LeSabre right behind, within 2 blocks the Lesabre was alongside..............now remember the Tranny kit?............The Lesabre has yet to get into 2nd gear at this point, 4 blocks off the line and all wound up, and all at once, it hit 2nd gear, blew the exhaust open at the y-pipe and left the bird like it was sitting still. Rumbling up the road with the firebird getting smaller in the mirror John sees the turn signal, and the rich jerk in the firebird turns off to go lick his wounds. Now, this is a pretty good story from this side, but I'd love to get into that guy's head and see how that must have looked from his point of view! Sorry so long, I hope you liked it. Tom PS: later we learned the value of vacuum modulators, that th350 lived a short but glorious life.

That's great. I bet the firebird guy ran through what happened and was thinking "damn, that guy was at my door and didn't even have it at WOT!".

Thanks guys,I'm glad you liked it. The LeSabre is in storage now since John joined the army. We did pretty good on that one looking back, for a couple of dumb kids. I even fabricated a replacement tooth out of plastic for the grille, and painted it gold....of course. I can still picture how tough it looked -w- buick rally wheels- bigs and littles, deep blue metallic paint, and that gleaming gold tooth in the grille. A lot of close calls and good times were part of that car for us. Tom
