I don't believe that anyone does anything other than burn their tires down till there is little tread left. No recapping with soft rubber or anything like that. No real need to. Maybe you could find Rusty at Stanton before he delivers all the tires he's bringing and feel how soft the rubber on the tread is. They're nothing like the old rock hard tires of the 60's or the firm rubber used on the tread of late model radials. Those tires and the rubber used in them is a lot of the reason that the et's are what they are today.
Recapping the tire in a different compound is unsafe. About 8 years ago i tried it, it looked ridiculous, no where near stock and i mean no where, i was told do not do a burn out because the extream heat may loosen the adhesive and the re-thread will come off at 100mph just like you see on the semi truck tires lying all over the sides of the freeway. They were redlines but i put them on my Challenger to test them at Milan dragway which was a waste of time because the threads looked nowhere near stock. With a durometer they were no softer and they worked no better. I gave them to my buddy Pete and he just sold them with his car. (to a pure stock racer) Now everybody thinks they are the new hot ticket...LoL. That's decade old FAST sh!t...... Truth is i had to have them made out of the country and there's only 1 set in existence. Have him bring them to the race! Having the entire tire made and cast in a sticky compound is the hot ticket. If you don't believe me just ask the tiny little leprechaun in my pocket next time you see me. ---------- Post added at 08:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:22 PM ---------- John is 100% right, i've tried everything, soaking them in chemicals, hidden VHT spray bars in my wheel wells, you name it... My best results came from just burning down the old fashion way. Or if you don't have the time, have them shaved and break down the side walls at 9psi..just saying. o No:
Wow, I've been outta town for three days. NEVER anywhere, did I suggest Dave was cheating! I truly believe Dave's car will pass tech as the rules are written. And Tom, I am very aware of Dave's accomplishments. I have my finger on the pulse of the hobby better than some. The speed that the non purpose built car was thrown together, and the speed of the car combined with it's show quality, is second to none. Regardless Sometimes, just because you can do something, does not mean you should! If you truly love the hobby, you should ask yourself, when you are making changes to your car, "is this good for the hobby, or just good for me?" I used to go to shows like the Supercar Reunion, and others, (when we were running low 12's and certifying) where people would want to shake your hand and tell you how cool this all was. Now they just roll there eyes. Too bad...................................... I agree with John. It's not about the time you run, it's about the time you had, and folks...... I had some pretty good parties with this bunch. Would hate to see it end. Peter
WOW, I just have to say this thread is TERRIBLE! Really you people have nothing better to do then complain about people who have faster cars then you???? WOW, I have never seen such garbage on this forum before. If everyone passed tech then what is the problem???? I say good job on the fast runs and keep having fun!:TU:
Looks like B**ches drive Fords-Mopars-Chevys....Complain complain, point fingers, well he did it, how come I cant do it, thats not fair etc. Glad you guys dont race Buicks. You guys are turning the coolest thing into a joke, keep it up and you will be racing alone with no spectators. You fellers act like the Kardashians:moonu: Why cant you guys all support each other? Take your complaing/whining to another site.
Wow, your post is so prolifice! You just got it going on we should just step aside! Your language just demands respect! Nice, drink another 6 pack before you post. I'm glad my daughter doesn't read this board.
Dave you better be careful with that leprechaun in your pocket, haven't you seen those movies? you better hope he doesn't get mad and steal your Lucky Charms!
Just Keep In Mind Guys, Anybody running faster than 11.49 Will be disqualified and told to put it on the trailer. No exceptions!!!
Pre-Weekend Peace Offering: Ive given some thought to this thread and the long-standing debate behind it. This post isnt going to slow any cars down, but it might ease tensions. Ill keep it simple: When the problems first arose, the quasi-solution was the creation of the F.A.S.T. class. A good idea. People were voluntarily setting themselves apart from Pure Stock and it brought some peace to the valley. Since then the P/S rules have become increasingly more generous. In the eyes of some, the credibility of the event has suffered again. I suggest drivers who are bringing cars that take advantage of the broader P/S rules simply acknowledge that theyre do so. I know brilliant, right? So this group should now identify their cars not as Pure Stock, but as meeting: Bob And Dans Altered Stock Specifications Ill let everyone else figure out the new acronym! Dave, the new car is gorgeous and runs flat-out amazing. Lead the way, pal! Really looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend. Safe travels all.
Definately sounds like those mods are worth more than an X-pipe. Steve- I think you need to get a bigger spoon if you want to stir this pot !:bla:
8000 RPM? Just plain ignorant, do you have nothing to do with your time other than run your pie hole and make sh!t up so you feel better? My Bee shifts at 6900, peak HP at the rear tires comes in at 6600, I can post the sheets... Really, i can't remember if we've ever met but next time we do i can't wait to put a face to your post. I hope the lies make you feel better. Are you doubting what the bald tires are capable of? LoL. Ask anybody in FAST, a full second in ET reduction is not uncommon. Ask anybody.. Truley right now this is the last BS i need to deal with.
Sorry, just trying to be humorous. I see that it rubbed you the wrong way. I don't know what your engine can turn, I was referring to the other hemi. I will be happy to introduce myself. I stopped at the local speed shop today and saw that they have Q16. Price was $78 for 5 gallons. A label on the can said to drain the carb after use.
Wow, i Can honestly say any interest i had in this series of racing is officially gone. Ive "trolled" the "pure stock" section for some time and thought there was a bit too much soap opera for me, but after watching this thread for a while and can say without a doubt that this class will never get traction (haha, joke) with all the "they cheated" pi**ing and moaning going on. Congrats pure stocker faithful, another perspective attendee has been run off by the content of this thread. Seems like a great premise for a racing class, but far too flawed to make work. See ya on the flip side... Flame on.....
There are 150 plus that show at this race during a recession. I'm one of the guys that has built a Buick to race at this great but not perfect event. Talk is cheap. Build your car and let the race promoters worry about the 11.50 crowd. I bet you will have a blast doing it.
Ill be totally honest, i have not attended an event. My point is look at the posts concerning this event. Being totally objective, would you go?? All allegiances aside, i wouldnt. Just throwin in my 2 cents and bein honest. If this isnt what the "pure stock" crowd wants to hear than ill gladly go away never to be heard from again. My only point was to maybe bring to light that at face value this sounds like a flat awesome class for racing but with the current banter a lot of outsiders are gonna beat feet cause of all the drama. Take it or leave it, just an outside [worthless] opinion. Have a good night, best wishes to what you all are trying to do. Sounds like a great idea, hope it takes off.
