Hi All: I'm doing a frame off on my car but am missing the chalk/paint marks on the fire wall. Need to know what should be on there and where.
    Car Specs:
    1971 GS Stg 1
    Auto/colum shift
    no power steering
    Bench seat
    Black/Black
    cheapo interior
    no A/c
    PD brakes
    Thanks for your help. Ken

Ken, if car has painted black top it would have the color code near the voltage regulator 19 19 If it was black vinyl top it will be 19 B. The voltage regulator would cover the upper part of this. It was probably writen in white crayon but could be yellow as well. There should be a big D for Disc behind the power booster in yellow crayon. I believe that is all you should have. Check out Ken Lisks thread in Chat called restoration 123. Done very nice. It is on the last page of post I think.

For chalk marks, you basically have the color in about the center of the firewall. You would have the body and top numbers, which would be the same in your case as it is a black body/black painted top, right? I'm not sure what the number was for black in '71, but I'm sure someone will chime in. Pictures of my firewall marks reapplied in their original positions are posted here:

Look at post 184. My body/roof colors were partially hidden behind the voltage regulator. Note for my car "43" = Limemist and "B" = black vinyl top. The B would be incorrect for your car as you have a painted top, right? So the number that matches the black paint code so be duplicated, like if mine didn't have a vinyl top it would be 43 43. Naturally, some guy on the assembly line was slapping these numbers on so I don't think you need to be too exact as to location. Mine are back where they were originally because you could still see them when the car was taken apart and pictures were taken.

The only other chalk marks would be behind the booster. There's some good examples in this thread:

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=55559

And the reasons behind what letters belong there. I *think* your car would only have the "D" for power disk brakes.

Attached is a photo of my firewall. I made an exact copy of the markings from the firewall. I used steel marking paint for my firewall. Most would say it's to clean looking but that is the way it came out.

    Thanks, George

You guys are awsome ! Ken, Dave, thanks. So I would put 19 19 by the regulator and a "D" behind the brade booster ? Thanks again. Ken
