I suspect CAD silver plated, but am looking for confirmation. You are correct

Also, is the little sticker on this cannister a date code or a part number or?
The sticker has info that includes both.

Thanks Duane, I appreciate it. I bought a rebuilt unit off EBAY that's supposed to be "very close" to original. That cannister looks to be painted with a bare metal colored plate. I can strip it and get it CAD plated to look right. My original is with Nick at Ivyland Collision in PA. I'll probably swing by there during Yards picnic Saturday and take a look at what the sticker reads (and see if I can reproduce one).

I found an exact date coded wiper motor to mine that had nice finsh and used one of the Eastwood datail paints on it and got it real close. I think it was detail garay or silver but will have to check if interested.

Dave, I think my first approach will be to see if I can duplicate that sticker. It seems to me that it's a silver-backed foil type. If I can, then I'll get the canister CAD plated and put on my sticker. If not, then I might be interested in the paint you're talking about and swap my original cannister for the one on this refurb unit, masking around the sticker.

Tom, The radiators were pretty glossy black. Eastwood makes a nice radiator paint. Goes on real smooth...........Curtis, Bolts???

Yes, I did work on the assembly line at the Framingham BOP assemply plant from 1972 to 1974.

What folks used to do is to place bolts, nuts, washers, soda cans, food, etc. into areas that were going to be welded shut. A soda can would make for a bad rattle that the dealership would have trouble finding or fixing.

Yes, it is true that the worst cars were built on Mondays and Fridays. Drug and alcohol use was common, care and workmanship were not.

The cars went down the line at 60 cars per hour, come hell or high water. Slapped together was a compliment, as quality was job #10.

And, for all you purists out there, the variability in those cars was huge. The parts that were used came in from many suppliers, so the hardware on one batch of cars could be different from another batch.

Chris, can you show the paint code crayon marking? Is the crayon white on that? Try tracing the marks with a big clear plastic bag then you can replace them.

Here is a pic of my unrestored firewall. I couldn't find any yellow "p" or "d" since it does have power disc brakes, so maybe that was the default? Plus, there is a white crayon marking that matches the job sequence number on the build sheet, "3112". I'll try to recreate this as best as I can after I clean everything up. I like the orginality of this. Just thought I'd share.

Interesting! Can't quite make out your data plate as it got cut off in one of your close-up picture. I'm curious as to what plant your car originally came from. Perhaps that makes a difference. We'll have to ask Master Duane.

Also, have you had the voltage regulator off? I think much of my "43 B" was hidden behind there (although definitely not all of it).

The car was built at the Leed's Plant in Missouri. Nope - I haven't taken anything off of the firewall yet. I'll get to it as soon as those pesky inner fenders are complete.

    Thanks.

This may be unethical, but I took an sos pad to my firewall and cleaned the grime and crud off of it. Underneath this, near the master cylinder was a "50" marking matching the paint code.

    Has anyone seen this before?

    Bob

    Bob,
if your car has not been undercoated is there a ton of body color on the belly ? Seems to be the case on Leeds cars.
