Does the skylark GS from 69 - 72 or later use just the fine 26 or 10 spline close ratio tranys Or just the 455 use the 26 and the 350 use the 10 ?
Hi, I was under the impression the fine splines only came with a larger (TH400) output shaft but I am not an expert Regards,
Are we talking manual transmissions? I thought they were all 10 splined input shafts until the 5-speeds came out.
I believe post-1970 M-22 rock crushers switched from coarse to fine input shaft splines. ---------- Post added at 11:50 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:47 AM ---------- Here's a good site for Muncie info, it's a Chevelle site but I'm assuming same-same: http://www.chevellestuff.com/qd/muncie.htm
The 4 speed muncie came in 7/8" , 1" fine and course input shafts Starting in 67 they were all 1" i believe. The question is in 1970 thru 1973 did buick 350 and 455 have 10 spline or 26? really just interested in 1972 350 cid and 455 cid.
My original 71 GS350 with 4 speed was fine spline, see photo. I just installed a BBB with the fine spline muncie. George
1 of my 72 gs 350s has m21 fine the other has course, the course is not original to the car. Just like to know what the bbb and the sbb is most likely to have. I think they all should have the fine as it is a lttle stronger. so far we have... 70 455stg1 ?.?? is course 71 350cid ?.?? is fine 72 350cid 3.42 in mine is fine--- 1 ?? 455cid ?.?? is fine --- 1 73 455stg1 ?.?? is course
Up through 1970 the Muncie input shaft had 10 splines (coarse) with the same diameter output shaft as a turbo 350. From 1971 on they had 26 splines (fine) with the larger size turbo 400 output shaft. The only exception to this is the M-22 which always used the 26 spline input & turbo 400 output.
