The title says it all. I went to go fetch an Ignition Coil for my Buick today, and I was riding along w/ my Grandpa in his 2004 Mustang GT. We were cruising up High Street, and all of the sudden a red car pulls out from a stop sign a little ways a way. I squint to get a better look, and I see that's a mustang from the mid 60's. Now, at this point, I can't see a whole lot, but just the rear end w/ the unique design of the tail-lights. I tell my grandpa to speed up just a bit, and he does. As we get closer, I notice it's in showroom condition, from what I can see! It was a red color(like a cherry red), w/ black interior. We get even side by side, and I can hear that he has a mellow dual exhaust system on it, as he gets on it just a tad bit. We get up to stop sign, and I yell out the window, "hey man, that's a nice car". At this point, we are stopped at a 4-way stop intersection, w/ no one around or in sight. He takes the compliment and says thanks. He was looking at our Mustang, and I could tell he thought the same about it as we did his car. I noticed it had the 289 logos on the fender near the front of it, and it had a "2+2" logo on it, for whatever that stands for. My grandpa yells out"does it got a 289 in it?" and he says "yeah". After that, my grandpa said"will it spin the tires", and the guy yells out"oh yeah, it will!", and at idle, the car sounds like it has a mild, but lopey cam. After sitting at the stop signs, the guy in the other Stang got on it a little hard and made both tires spin and then he let off. My grandpa, w/ the 5 speed(the other mustang was a column-shift automatic), engaged the clutch, brought the rpms up to about 2,500, and then just popped the clutch out and slammed the gas and we left a good strong 2 patches. A big one in first gear, and a little patch in second. :3gears: We left the other Mustang behind us, but he wasn't really getting on it. And with a car in showroom condition like his, I can see why. The mustang had to be around a '64 or '65. Possibly a '66, but I would guess either '64/'65. That was a good end to a great day. Nothing like being able to have fun while going out to fetch parts. :TU: Most kills that happen are w/ people being dead serious about who will win, but this wasn't really a race, or a kill, but I think it deserves it's place in this section of the board. If I had been in my Buick now, it would have been a different story. :bglasses: :TU:

  2. I'm guessing if it said 2+2 on the side it was a fastback which didn't come out till 65. The "64 1/2" cars were only coupes and verts, and I think only had a 260 V8 in them. Not positive on that but pretty sure.

Sounds like a nice car in any case. Those 289's can be built for thrills too.

Im kind of educated a little bit on the Mustangs. Not so much the older ones, but more of the newer ones from about 1999-2004. I research those to help my Grandpa learn more on them and to benefit my knowledge on these cars as well. :TU:

This guy's Mustang was really nice. There is a handfull of Older 'Stangs around here, some of them in the 60's. This one was at least in show-room condition, possibly better. :Smarty: The motor sounded very healthy and had a somewhat lopey idle and a loud, but distinctive roar when he got on it. :3gears: It busted the tires loose w/ no problem, and I could tell he didn't even have the pedal-to-the-metal either. :eek2: :Brow: :TU:

Yeah, 289s can be built pretty strong. Some of them came out of the showroom capable of 14s flat, but most were high 14s when geared low. There were a few that came out noticably stronger, as any Mustang buffs around back then, for some reason or another. I think the compression on some was "accidentally" bumped up a point.
