Need some help here fellas :TU:

I'm stuck. Here's the situation - got a 70 skylark and I'm dropping in a 494 that has just been completed. The intake is an SP1 and I'm wondering if it'll fit under the hood if I go with fiberglass gs hood?

First, does anyone have experience with this?
Second, how well is the hood from VFN produced and can you still put the grills in it? Does anyone have any pictures they can show me.

My main concern with the stage 2 scoop is ow the front of the skylark hood looks (kinda goofy to me) I know it's a little thing.......... :Do No:

I've seen a few pics of cars with A STAGE 2 scoop and they look bad a$$, but what about the lip on the front of the hood

Please give me your input and share some pics and what your favorite is

PS - the car is brown and has vinyl top w/ sandalwood interior - I think it could be a nice stage 1 clone - I saw a pic of one in a magazine that listed the top 12 muscle cars of all time and my car is the identical colour combo

    Agreed

I agree, the Stage 2 scoop looks a little goofy. I am in the same boat, was going to go with the scoop, and then backed off. I have the same intake with the lowest drop base possible with a 3" filter and it has been slitghly tweeked from the motor rocking under the hood. Saving for a glass hood. Had a thread like this not too long ago. This is my plan now.

    Actually,

I like the look of the stage 2 scoop, I was refering to the way the skylark hood looks on a '70 - particularly the front leading edge - does the repro vfn hood (the flat) have the gs styled leading edge?

    I attached a pic

I would love to see pictures of 70GSRICK's hood and would like to know about the wheels he is using.

Rick Sanford - did you use a fiberglass hood or steel and do you have pics - your car is the one I am referring to when I say the stage 2 scoop looks sweet :TU:

I have a VFN lift off hood on my car. It has the stage 2 scoop built on the hood by VFN with no seam. The hood has the small lip on the front like the GS hoods. I think you can have them build it with either the GS lip or the Skylark lip. The original chrome bolts up to it too. In the past I have ran the T/A intake with the stock hood. With a drop base air cleaner it worked but the air cleaner lid did rub the insulation on the hood. I run a spacer under the carb now so I had to use a scoop and I built an airpan that seals to the hood. The VFN hood fit great too with no trimming other then for the mounting plates for the zdus fasteners.

    Nigel,
Why not use a 71-2 hood and install the 70 hood lip trim?

Do you want to buy a glass hood to replace the 70 standard metal hood?

George, I didn't realize that the 71-72 skylark hoods were different. That may be an idea

I really love the the look of the stage 2 scoop, and I think it may go better with intake set up I have, but then I still like the traditional gs hood :Do No:

    70 Hood

At first I too would think the 70 Skylark hood with the Stg2 scoop might look a little goofy, but I was stuck with it because thats the way Buick did it back then. Now I kind of like it.
I'll put up a couple pics for you to decide
