just wondering if anyone has any experience using Glasstek fiberglass bumpers? How is the fit, build quality etc.? I have been looking for glass bumpers for my cutlass and have only found some at glasstek.com--$160 is pretty damn good price compared to some of the prices that I've seen at other companies.

Also, even if nobody has had any experience with this company in particular, how easy are glass bumpers to install, I assume that most if not all come without any mounting hardware so is it possible to reuse the factory bumper hardware with some mods? Any experiences/knowledge you guys have would be appreciated.

    Gracias,
    Adam

I bought a Glasstek hood for my GS. I am very happy with the quality. I've seen many of their products and the quality seems great. No experience with their bumpers though.

    Hope this helps!

Thanks for the quick reply! Yeah, I just wanted to know if anybody has had any experience with them, I figure if they make good hoods (or whatever) that their other parts are probably made equally as well...we'll see I guess 'cause I'm ordering the bumpers today--I'll let everyone know how they work out :3gears:

I just got done ordering the bumpers, the guy at glasstek said that they mount using all of the factory hardware :TU: , and weigh LESS than 3 lbs. each :eek2: talk about some serious weight savings :Brow: I'm going to go weigh the factory boat anchor to see just how much I'm going to shed....

Are these street legal? I would tend to doubt it. Anyone know for sure?

I'm going to look into that here in a bit, I was thinking that if the inner bumper support was reused with the glass bumper that it would then be ok. Even still, simply ditching the chrome outer shell of the bumper is worth a lot of weight I'm sure.

If ya think about, how is law enforcement going to be able to say that my car is unable to sustain whatever the benchmark is for impact from a collision? (Short of pulling me over and then proceeding to ram the hell out of my car with their cruiser!! :pp ) The fact is, there are a lot of cars out on the road that are known for being unsafe when it comes to their tolerance for impact--and that's how they came from the factory! I don't think its the case that simply modifying the impact resistance characteristics of a vehicle is grounds for deeming the car "illegal", after all, if I beefed up the crash protection I'm assuming that everyone would be alright with that...Either way, I'm going to look into this for sure, my car doesn't spend a whole lot of time on the road so I'm not too worried but I am still curious....

This is quoting a Minnesota statute but I'm sure similar laws would be found in other states:

Subd. 3. Bumper restrictions. No person shall
operate a private passenger vehicle that: (a) was originally
equipped with bumpers as standard equipment, unless the vehicle
    is equipped with bumpers equal to the original equipment;

this would render using fiberglass bumpers illegal, however, "a private passenger vehicle" (at least in Minnesota) is defined in such a way as to exclude my vehicle (which is registered as a "collector vehicle") in the following:

Definitions. (a) As used in this
section, "private passenger vehicle" means a four-wheeled
passenger automobile as defined in section 168.011. "Private
passenger vehicle" does not include a collector vehicle or
collector military vehicle as defined in section 168.10.

As long as they are giving drivers liscenses to women, I don't think I'll put a fiberglass bumper on a steet driven car....
