Few questions about rebuilt heads

Hello everyone I recently took a gamble and bought some rebuilt 73 455 heads that have been sitting for a long time. There in good condition except a little bit of rust on the deck surface. I cleaned them up pretty well but took out a spring to inspect the valve/stem/spring to verify they were infact rebuilt and new and also to start cleaning them up a bit.

So my questions are is it a good idea to re lapp all of valves back in after disassembling or can I just reinstall all them normally after cleaning them?

And second, I began to use a grey scotch bright pad on the deck surface to get the rust and as I started I realized to my horror it was leaving tiny scratches in the machine surface… so now I’m thinking to be safe do I have to take to a shop to have it resurfaced or is there a way to clean the deck surface well enough like using a block sander and special type of sandpaper?

I would not think those scratches will hurt anything. But I'm no expert - maybe someone else will chime in. But lay a straight edge on them to make sure they are not warped.

Interesting ! Just doesn’t look right comparing the perfect machined surface and all the little swirl scratches lol.

what about removing valves that were already lapped? I guess I’m asking is if anytime valves are removed new or not, do they need to be lapped back on?

Not unless they got rusted somehow?

If the seats aren't rusty I would leave them alone.

Seats check out fine. Just in general dirt and grime from sitting for a long time around the ports and what not, little rust here and there but not on the seats. I just want to completely clean everything since It looks like it needs it

Does it look like these had a valve job/3 angle cut? I haven’t torn apart many heads to tell, I can barely see 2 angles on the face sometimes I think I can see 3

Can you tell by looking at the valves?

The valves themselves look to be new I believe I’m not sure

    These were assembled heads right?
They don't look they had a 3 angle grind by looking at the pics but i'm not a head expert either. Just could be a clearance cut in the seat below the 45 degree? cut.

Yea assembled and “rebuilt” per seller but no other info. I’m thinking it was just a quick clean up cut what ever that is

From the close-up photo of the valve just before the photo of the head, it looks to me to be a single 45 degree angle cut.

I just don't see 3 angles. You should take the valves and heads to a good machine shop for their inspection and if they do need a 3 angle valve job
have them take care of that.

I keep looking at head seats, just can't get a clear enough picture to say for sure how many angles there are.
I'm looking again with a magnifier, and I just don't see a 3 angle machine cut on these seats.

Here are 2 photos of 3 angle valve & seat. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help everyone. A little late for the reply because still haven’t decided what heads to use. Will probably just run these unless I can find someone to rebuild the originals.
