I have a set of Federal Mogul rod bearings new in the box that I bought cheap more than a decade ago from a guy getting out of Buicks. The part number on the box is 3320 AP-1. Can anyone tell me if these are right for a 455? And are they std, .010 under, etc? I haven't pulled the motor yet and so don't even know what I need. I'm just trying to establish what I have.

I'm getting my list of parts together to go through my 455 this winter and have been reading the TA catalog quite intently. I read in their ad in a recent Build Sheet issue that their HP bearings "incorporate all of the performance features available for years in other engine types". What exactly does this mean in terms of longevity in a motor that will be street driven and will be warmed over a little more than the stock '70 Stage 1?

    The bottom line:
I have a set of bearings in hand. Assuming the application is right, should I consider getting rid of them for the TA HP bearings?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Your 3320-AP bearings are standard bearings, they are not a tri-metal bearing, those would be the c-p series. Yours will be fine for a mild build -up, if you are going to push the power levels to the upper 400 range or better, I would go with a better bearing. Jim Burek

    Thanks Jim.

I am going with a cam over stock, but not annoyingly so in a street car, and Greg Gessler is doing some heads for me, so sounds like it would be worth getting the better bearings.

    Thanks.

Probably something similiar to the 'popular mechanics' cam or the TA C113 or C118. I'm still in the research stage and have a lot to learn before I figure out the total combination. Of course, this board and its members are my biggest resource. :TU:

Hi Ken. i used the TA 113 cam. I loved that one. I'm running a comp cams 268H now and I'm not as impressed as with the ta cam. It had a nicer power curve. I'm using the comp cams because I had a fuel pump go bad and it chewed the lobe on the cam. The parts store I got the pump from gave me a "deal" on the comp cams stick.

    go with the TA!
