Yes, I'm sure this has been asked a million times... My trim tag reads 106 Dark Saddle and 50 50 Covert Tan (Sandalwood?) for colors. But when I look at pictures of my 43327 '72 Skylark 350 coupe before it was painted, those numbers seem off from it's original color. Unless of course GM used different names in the same year for different models. This picture shows the car as it was originally. Looks like Burnished Copper or Sierra Tan to me. Doesn't look like Covert Tan. The interior is a darkish tan, which I assume is Dark Saddle. The car wasn't painted inside or out before it's current exterior color that it is now, so this picture is accurate. Just trying to clear things up. I found a previous owner this week who gave me a bunch of original pics of the car. Thanks!
That looks like Burnished Copper. Might have come from the factory in Covert Tan, but someone along the line painted it. Could have been when it was new, too. Buyer hated the color, so they painted it a better color? Anything could happen.
Here are some '72s wearing their original paint code 50 Sandalwood (called Covert Tan when sprayed on a Chevrolet)
Those pics show what I THOUGHT it was originally painted. I'm gonna have to do some investigating. The current paint job, and any earlier paintjobs were very well done. I can't find that light color anywhere. Either way, it's not going back to that Sandalwood shade. Thanks all
