Anyone have any experiences with this camera? How about the S50? My wife is getting a digital camera (penance for my new exhaust system :Brow: ) and she's narrowed it down to the S45. Anyone know the cheapest place to get one, in addition to accessories I definitely need to purchase? Any and all opinions/experiences with Canon products welcome. TIA
I haven't personally used the S## cameras, but have used the G3 for a while now. it is a great camera as most Canon products are.. and if the smaller size is not critical, the new G5 looks pretty nice. smaller size (sometimes) means the optics were sacrificed a bit to fit it all. have you looked at DP Review? I swear by this site because he puts most of the cameras through rigorous testing: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/ also, I have been using a Sony F-707 for over a year and absolutely love the results. Sony quality is definitely up there with Canon, in my opinion.
didgital camera here is something else to consider. i was looking at buying one also. i ended up buying a sonytrv350 it is a camera and a video camera. i thought about taking video at the track. and video of our new baby. and also being able to take digital pics. it has a 20x optical zoom and a 700x digital zoom anyway you will spen a little more money but you get alot more scott
Thanks everyone. Randall - I had my wife read some V8buick posts pertaining to digital cameras, and you previously posted that website link - THANK YOU. It was used extensively in her research. This is her camera, and she has been doing research for about one month now. We're trying to stay below $500 for the entire package (including accessories/warranty) and she has been 'narrowing down' the list and finally came to a conclusion. My only requirement was that it is able to create movies, so we have that covered Steve. Thanks! We have a little bundle arriving soon and would like to have the camera in our hands prior to the stork getting here. Thanks again, and please keep any/all opinions coming :TU:
I have the S45. It's a great 4 megapixel camera. I borrowed the one we have at work to take pictures of an old Offy intake I was trying to sell. I liked it so much that I went out and bought one. It really takes a nice picture. I've only had it a short time and I haven't used it that much so I'm not totally familiar with all the features, but it does seem to be fairly easy to use. You'll be able to make fairly large hi-res prints (up to about 10" X 20" if I remember right). It also does movies w/sound. Here's a good web sight with lots of info on digital photographic equipment that might be able to fill in some of the blanks for you. It has a full 4+ page review of the S45, plus reviews of just about anything else related to digital photography. http://www.steves-digicams.com Good luck. And congrats on your soon-to-be new addition to the family. Larry
I haven't played with Canon's latest, but just bought a Kodak 6490 . It has a 10x optical and a 3x digital zoom (30x total), records movies (about 15 minutes on a 256 card), has presets or manual configuration and is smallish in size. This is a 4mpix camera and retials for around $499 and uses secure digital/multimedia cards. There aren't many cameras out yet with this kinda of zoom. It is the main reason I bought it, although the image quality is super! Mike
My uncle has a Nikon, maybe 1.5 years old now, 3.5 megapixles about, I think. It takes great pictures. Here is a quick example, keeping in mind this is after I shrunk it down to 800x600 w/ 92% jpg compression.
Try to get the largest memory card you can that is within your budget. Also, 2 or 3 sets of good quality rechargeable batteries are an absolute must.
Hey Marco, Check out this link: http://www.pricescan.com/digiphoto/items/item144367.asp I'm a Nikon guy, personally. I've got the 995 and still love it (although after about two years it's "old tech"). Good luck.
