I have some manifolds I'll let go of One's got a broken ear on the outlet but otherwise pretty good shape one might try Kepich for the down pipes- They are already down- kind of a straight out deal. Ted
Thanks for the heads-up on that system! Hard to believe even the GSCA can't make them right???? o No: I have heard from an aftermarket systems supplier (thanks Dave!(not TA))......there is a possibility there will be a performance system available for us!......so just sit back, have a beer, and hang in there :beer If you do want a stock setup, Gardner is very highly regarded for their excellent work. :TU: I still can't decide if I want to go bone stock, or go the performance route....Guess I'll just buy one of each! errrr....wait a minute...I need 3 systems.....do I buy 2 stock and 1 performance, or 1 stock and 2 performance systems?
Gardner is pretty pricey maybe we can negotiate a better price if we could get 5 to 10 of us to purchase at the same time? Its winter so this is probably a slow time for business. They would only have to set up their equipment once.
Flowmaster used to make a complete mandrel bent 2.5" system for the A-body cars, but it got changed to the kit you see in the Jegs and Summit catalog that has two piece tailpipes and two-piece header-to-muffler pipes. Back in the early '90s when I restored my '64, I bought the original style flowmaster set with the one-piece pipes and it fits/works perfect. It came with the tailpipes going straight out the back, so I had a muffler shop put the bend on the ends of the tailpipes. When I recently did my '65 GS and found the kit had been changed to the two-piece pipes, I took the car to a local muffler shop that does excellent work and he made all the pipes by hand using my '64 as a visual reference and the "pipe cards" that muffler shops have. It came out really nice as well. The reason the flowmaster kit got chopped up into two-piece pipes that no one likes is because UPS implemented all the oversize shipping charges and the one piece pipes drive it into the much more expensive shipping category. The kit with the two-piece pipes fits in a much smaller box and is cheaper to ship. Stupid I know, but that is why they did that. I have some pictures I took of the one-piece-pipe system on my '64 Skylark with it parked over a ditch. They film pictures I took before digital cameras were readily available, but I can scan a couple in if someone wants to see them.
I`m looking to pick up a 3" exhaust system(for exhaust manifolds) for my Conv`t. and a 3" system(for headers)for my hardtop also,i dont know where to get them from? o No: Thanks
Talked with Gardner today. It sounds like they are very good and knowledgeable about stock exhaust systems. Their 'base' system, which sounds very complete and nice, is $590 plus about $100 to ship to Wisconsin. You should be aware that the mufflers will be quite stock in sound and appearance. They said that they would be quite a bit quieter than Flowmaster 40 series. This is not a performance set but a high quality stock set that is very well engineered. Really nice people to talk with I might add.
George, I don't think you can get 3" pipes to run in the factory location over the rear axle--the pipes will interfere with the springs. It is extremely tight with 2.5" pipes, so I don't see how 3" could be bent in that tight turn and clear everything. Dan, have you had any success getting that consolette installed in your car yet?
A buddy of mine has a 3" set up on his `66 Chevelle fits no problem he says so its gotta fit dont you think? o No: Thanks
If it will fit on a Chevelle, then it will fit on the Buick. I can't imagine how they stuffed it in there. They must have moved the muffler location forward some to get enough room to make the sharp turn coming out of the muffler. If you kept the stock location and made that turn, the pipe would hit the tube on the rear axle housing.
