Well more like head pipe to exhaust manifold gaskets.... I was trying to eliminate the dreaded leaking from my recently installed dual exhaust set up, and while wrenching on the flange I noticed there are no 'donut' gaskets installed. Are they required for a good seal?? Anybody know off hand what size diameter the '56 manifolds are?

My repo exhaust set up had a ball undersized on one pipe I had to weld a bead around the back to space the flange back so it would force ball in manifold socket farther to seal.

If you have Car Quest dealerships, they have a great selection of doughnut gaskets. Find out the local shop that is connected to the regional warehouse and all the stock will be right there. You will have to look it up by style and size not by car. They have the books right there. A quick measurement of the diameter needed will narrow the choice down to one or two.

I can't remember if you have a 55 or 56 but the 56 uses metal ball on pipe to metal socket on the manifold with no gasket.
