Two Quiet Flows ordered. Amazon said “Only 2 left”. Estimated delivery tomorrow. One muffler has shipped from Walker. The other hasn’t shipped yet. If only one shows up by Thursday then I’ll try to find the bright side… I’ll be able to do an A/B comparison. Cut the drone in half?
The pair of Quiet Flow SSs are in. No resonators, just the new mufflers. I’ll test drive it tomorrow, but in the garage I could hear the sound of the exhaust but no drone. It plays a note, but it doesn’t have the resonance it’d take for that note to be considered a drone. goodnight!
Two different mufflers may move the harmonics to an unequal state, and eliminate the drone. Fingers crossed. You should try dealing with fighter aircraft and all the frequency interference of multiple systems and their spectrums. Trying to keep interference from affecting systems to "hiding" them from threats and sensors of "the others".
Do these resonators make my butt look too big? That’s what happens when you want to see if they have an effect but don’t want to cut anything yet.
Bad news peeps… drone with the Walker quiet flows is bad. not sure why it sounds ok in my garage and worse on the road. Load on the engine I suppose, compared to revving in the garage.
I believe what a lot of people forget about is the FACTORY front pipes were laminated, and 2” at most. Here we are putting at least 2.5” SINGLE wall pipes on with “performance” mufflers It’s like trying to get rid of the plinkity plink sound of headers we all love to hear
quiet flow are stock replacement mufflers, some thing else must be going on. am sure you checked when the weight of the car is on the wheels that no pipes are hitting any of the frame, gas tank or body
Are the TA down pipes stainless? You should have an H or X crossover. Better hangers? I did it. Eliminated the 2000 rpm exhaust drone | Hot Rod Forum (hotrodders.com)
That’s my next step. I’ll need to source some materials or buy a premade pair. The walkers are louder than the dynomax, and the car feels slower. That’s not cool. I tried adding resonators to the tails with the Walker. Both kinds. Also tried a length of pipe that’d put the outlets well past the bottom of the bumper. Nothing is helping with these. I had hopes my drone would be gone, certainly not worse. So I’ll return the walkers. I am not sure any muffler will kill the drone. It’s a pipe problem that need to be solved with a pipe solution.
Funny you should mention that because today I noticed that my timing is hanging at 25° at cruise and it should probably be higher. It’s at 27-28 at idle, 34 at WOT. I can read it on the dash, on the Holley Sniper EFI screen. Can you explain how retarded timing impacts the exhaust sound?
