I bought a '66 parts car from a board member as a parts car. I picked it up yesterday, drove it home nearly 100 miles averaging 75-80 MPH with no problems. Every part that I need is good, but the car was in much better condition than described. Someone please tell me I'm nuts for wanting to save this car and have 2 projects going at once:spank:
You guys aren't helping! I just rarely see a '66 with good floors/trunk, it's got a low-budget black paint job on it with white fenders, but the whole front end is rebuilt and the car is there for the most part. Plus it's an A/C car. I'm seriously thinking about taking only what I need and putting the parts from mine back on the car and selling the car as a project. I have nowhere to keep it for a long period of time, and my last resort was to ask my father if I could leave it at his house for a while. He declined, and I'd rather see this car saved than cut up. Should I just go against my gut feeling and strip it, or swap the parts from my GS back to it and sell as a project? I could make a quick buck parting it out, but am having a "moral dilemma" about it. Somebody knock some sense into me!
Been there, and I'm STILL there!....I have several project cars in various states of completion. The only cars I've had the heart to part out were either wrecked or 4 doors. Skylarks and Specials make great drivers and race cars....if you need parts, try posting a list....
Save it Artie, I may be interested in the car. Do you have a titile for the car? How much stuff off the car are you going to take and swap with your stuff and what shape is it in anyway? I don't live too far from you. I live in Somerville N.J.. Anyway you don't want to cut up a perfectly restorable car. I could come and look at the car since I am only a short distance down Route 22. Anyway you don't want to cut up a perfectly restorable car. Let me know. Thank you, Bob Jerseysky66 1966 Skylark Wildcat 375
Bob, I have a clean NJ title for the car. It still has a good inspection sticker on it! I basically needed interior stuff because I'm switching from white to black and the doors are rust-free so I need them for mine. I am also going to switch the posi rear into my car and put my rear into the car since I can't find a 12-bolt. I am also willing to trade the car for things I need. Shoot me an email njvetteguy@aol.com . Thanks, Artie
If only you got a little closer. Under the vinyl roof is all rust (bad rust, thru in some spots, look at the stainless trim on top of the windshield closely). The floors are wasted, the quarters are wasted (bondo), the frame has holes, the fenders need patched (bondo again), the interior is mildewy, the windshield is cracked, and the doors are wasted from the bottom up to about 4 inches. But on the good side, the trunk is alright, the core support is surprisingly solid, the battery tray is in one piece, the grill only has a few cracks, the rearend is a 3.42 posi, the bumpers aren't rusted away, it has an am/fm radio and a few other things not really worth noting. For a car that has over 190,000 miles and lived in the Pittsburgh area all its life I'm surprised this car is as "decent" as it is, but it should be a parts car considering its condition. I could fix it up. It does have some sentimental value (it's what got me into Buicks) but amount of work and the cost doesn't coincide with the value of a 72 GS 350.
I knew that before I started mine a long time ago and did it anyway. ou: You've gotta love it. These cars are not an investment. If you see it that way, you'll never enjoy the car. :3gears:
At least it's not a GS then you have to save it. Looks like you have better cars to use your resources on. Get what you want out of it, a '66 300-2v makes an excellent parts car and is nothing Special.
Joe, I thought this thread was about buying parts you don't need, not parts that you'll never use. :Brow: Just punching you in your soft spot. Why don't you bring the buhog down to Beaver Falls Saturday. Me and the boys are going to be doing some :beer for my birthday. Maybe some bowling too!!
There are people who live in cars worse than that. I know it could be a daily driver for someone... if it runs. Of course there's always the "project under a tarp" designation too.
It was a car somewhat like this (although a little nicer) that got me into buicks at 15. Something like that can be placed in the price range of a kid looking to get into musclecars, and you never know, they may turn out like me. I got bit so bad by it I've bought 3 more in 3 years... (I'm 18..shhhhh). Some cars are too cool to part. My $.02 :TU:
It's great seeing young guys like yourself taking an interest in this hobby. Best part is you aren't ashamed of a car that's more than 5 years old. My son is your age, and he can't even change his own oil. He'd drive a yugo if he had to. Hats off to 'ya, Cris!:TU:
art, i know how you feel. we are looking at buying a 69 gs400 4spd car. 61k on it, but it was left in a field for quite a while. fix it or strip it....ugh!! john
