I have a very good running 60 401 and dynaflo, and not being the buick expert I want to be,wanted to ask anyone in the forum
What it may take to swap the 60 401 and trans,to replace the
Original 322 and trans in my 56 special? Are the rear end the same ? can I use the 56 torque tube to the 60 trans.and of course the engine mounts.any help appreciated. Bob in Nevada

Check the back of the '60 transmisson. I'm pretty sure it's set up for an open driveline, not a torque tube

I think there sill torque tubes in 60 at least in the tranny I got out of a 60 was. The engine swap is quite an undertaking. Do a search on this board Its been discussed before.

I should have mentioned that both the 60 and 56 are
torque tubes,my interest is to find out about interchangeability
of these units.Any other sites to look for,or any information

The motor has different bolt pattern at trans but the transmissions share some internal parts so I bet the trans case is close enough to swap either bell housing or tail shaft housing to do swap? I'd be more worried about the motor mounts, and driver side exhaust clearing the steering box.

Thanks Judd! I am trying to do my homework first. My plan if
enacted would be to use the 60 engine and trans, and would this bolt up to the 56 torque tube?Usuing the 56 deiveshaft?
    Thanks Bob
