I am running a 6-AL MSD, HEI, stock alternator with a small pulley and a Blaster 2 coil. After initial install, the only way to shut the car down was to pull neg. side of coil off. Purchased a 200 amp/1 volt diode and installed it in-line on the light brown/tan wire on the alt.
The car shuts off with the key now, but my gen light is on all of the time and it drains the battery down with the headlights on. Drains it to the point where it shuts the whole elec. system down.
Do I need a larger diode? Did I install it on the wrong wire? (MSD tech line person said to install on light brown/tan and alt. has a blue/brown plug in)

    Help..........Please...........??????

It sounds like the diode may be in backwards if the alternator is not charging. :Do No: (a diode only allows the current to flow one way, sounds like it's not letting it charge)

It's weird, I also have a MSD 6AL/HEI, it doesn't shut off sometimes, but I found if I step on the e-brake, it magically turns off. Very strange indeed. I haven't done anything about it yet, (diode) because it always shuts off when I do this.
