Empty hydraulics over the winter ok?

My 67 Skylark has a fluid leak near the pump and the lines show to be mostly air. I just got the car and didn't know it had a leak until the last time I put the top up. It barely made it with some manual help. I haven't taken the time yet to find exactly where the leak is, I just know its coming from by the pump.

I'm ready to tuck the car away for the winter. My thought is to pull the pump over the winter, replace the seals and clean it up, then reinstall it and bleed the system come spring. Am I looking for trouble in leaving the system open over the winter? Or together but nearly empty? It'll be in a self-storage unit.

Also, I did a search looking for tips on winter storage & found there had been a topic a while back, but it lost its posts to the hack. Any pointers specific to the convertible you can offer?

I don't see a problem with leaving the lines empty over the winter. the oil was already in the cylinders as well. maybe plug the ends of the lines to keep the air from circulating from there. don't forget to oil the cylinder rods to keep them from rusting in the winter.

    Thanks Nate

Anything in particular you recommend for coating the cylinder arms? Just rub 'em down with Vaseline? :Do No:

well i'd try to use the same fluid that's in my convertible top lines and thats ATF fluid. just put a thick coating on with a paper towel and your all set.
