If it's a divorced choke Qjet, it's pretty easy. Any Qjet choke element should fit--Edelbrock, GM, or stock replacement (say for an 82-87 5.0L Camaro).

All you do is take the choke housing off and plug the vacuum hole leading into the carb with JB weld or something similiar. Put the choke housing back on, don't use a gasket, and block the hot air port leading into the choke housing.

I've converted both my '79 vette and my '85 442, they work good. You might want to run the choke through an oil pressure switch and a relay to keep it off unless the motor is running.

You're describing a Hot Air choke, not a divorced choke. A divorced choke has the thermostat inside the intake. A hot air choke is attached to the carburetor with a large black cap and 2 tubes going into the intake.

A few members on the board have done this with a universal electric choke unit from www.carbsunlimited.com

Look up tlivingd on the board. He comes to mind when I think of doing this mod.

    Good luck!:TU:

You're absolutely correct, I meant to say integral choke. You know, they say the memory is the first thing to go... and I forget what the second thing was... :Brow:
