Ok guys, I finally disassembled my posi carrier this week end. I have a few questions. How can you tell if the clutches are worn? Mine are shiny where they run against the steels, but they "waffle" pattern looks fine. Will they be worn smooth or burnt looking if they are bad? Everything else looks good except for the "C" shaped retainer clips :Do No: that line up the clutches. I guess these are what the clutches slide in and out on. The are 2 per side. The ones in mine are grooved pretty badly on the inside where the clutches would rub them. Are they supposed to be smooth or are they machined with ridges? These do not look machined, but worn. If i need to replace these where can I get them? I am not against replacing the clutches as well, it's just Year One is the only place I have found them and they want $100 for the kit. I would just as soon not spend the extra money if it does not need them. This is my first go around with a 12 bolt posi, any tips on reassembly and getting the spring plate installed back in???? Thanks for any help!! :TU: :TU:

    12 bolt clutches

Worn clutches...Your clutches sound fine yes if the waffle is gone your in despirate need of clutches...lol. The 4 little c-type peices are clutch guides which keep them from wearing the carrier case out . When putting them on ...load them up with grease and the will stay in place so you can get them back into there spots. If you have access to some Clutch shims and about .005 tp .010 to each side that will tighten the pack up abit for some better grip. If you can afford a plate and spring kit 400# set of 4 springs for clutch preloading that will help the performance too. If you have more questions please visit www.jdrace.com discussion forum and differential store. the 100.00 is about right for the clutches. 5-10 on the shipping. Good luck with it and if you need more help check out the site. Ok? Jim

Thanks for the info Jim. I will check out the websight. It is funny how I look back on my questions and it looks like a 2 year old was trying to describe the problem :Dou: I work in Tech Service at Holley and chuckle sometimes at how customers describe problems. ( "I have some waffles and C shaped thingys")I am sure you do the same. Have a good day! :beer
