  1. STAGE III

STAGE III Lost Experimental 455-4 Bolt Main Block.

Well, looky what Fritz got in the mail !

WOW! Thank you, thank you , thank you, Duane:TU:

So Duane asks for my address a while back, and I was wondering what he was up to, and then the other day I get this nice CD, complete with the rest of the "Holy Grail" off the top end off my experimental 4 bolt main engine I use to own.

What a nice guy. I really appreciate it Duane and any of the other owners involved.

Just another sign of the class of people in our Buick hobby.

He by no means had to do this, but he knew how much finding that block meant to me, and was kind enough to share in their equally thrilling (if not more!) discovery of the missing heads and intake.

Thanks for taking the time to do that, and allow me to share in your excitement.

Way to go guys!!! I still cannot believe you pulled off locating those parts!!!

    Really amazing!!!:TU:

    John,
Glad you were happy with the video of Dennis Manner's talk.

We, as in the BPG, will be selling, copies of this 45 minute talk in the near future. The finished "for sale" copies will also include some nicely detailed pictures of the experimental parts along with text calling out the differences between the experimantal pieces and the standard Stage 2 components.

It's a nice piece of history, that many Buick guys will find enjoyable to watch.

PS. John, we got the headers also, and they are beautiful.

    John,
All I did was burn a few copies off the original. Then I threw it into my DVD player and it started playing automatically.

Not knowing all that you have included, how about including all of the Stage 2 package(s), what they were (and weren't) along with part numbers and photos?

funny, In high-school I found the stage 2 cam specs in a very old NAPA catalog that listed the Stage 2 cam as avaialble. I will guess it was actually from Melling...

    Adam,
The video we will be selling is a 45 minute talk about the 455 Stage 2 program that Dennis Manner was involved in during part of 1969 and 1970. This is the time period when he was working on the Stage 2 heads in order to create a complete vehicle with the Stage 2 package. Due to the parts we had on display, he also discussed some of the experimental pieces he was developing to compete in the 1970 Super Stock classes. These pieces were the 4-bolt blocks, Stage 2 tunnel port heads, etc.

During Denniss part of the talk, he went into the factory development of the Stage 2 heads, and then talked about the experimental pieces that followed, and how the Stage 2 program was ended. Then both I and the guys that owned the top end of the experimental tunnel port engine, told about how they located their particular pieces, and Dennis finished up with some questions.

As an added bonus I figured it would be nice to include some clean pictures of the experimental 455 Stage 2 Tunnel Port motor pieces that were described during the talk. We also had a standard Stage 2 head displayed at the talk, and mated it up against one of the tunnel port heads in order to show the differences.
