I don't know much about these engines but this sounds like a good deal to me. The ad doesn't reveal much about it but my guess is it's a 425. Not knowing the condition is a crap shoot, of course, but what might it be worth? It's only about 20 miles from me so I could go take a look. http://okaloosa.craigslist.org/pts/1508687697.html

If its legit, it will be gone very quickly. I would be very cautious but investigate ASAP. Craigslist scams are real. It'd be a needle in the haystack to find someone who didn't know the vaule of a 425 2x4 engine but it could happen. Sometimes things that sound to good to be true usually are. If it was local to me I would go look at it ASAP even if it meant taking some time off work...... I might elect to take a gun with me though. :Brow:
Even if the engine is locked up, the intake, carbs and linkage is worth $1000 easily. I just saw a rusty 2x4 instake with 2 carbs go for $911 on ebay.

I plan to go check it out as soon as I can but there is no phone number in the ad. I hate it when they do that. I inquired but haven't received a response yet so I'm stuck until I hear from the guy. Who knows, maybe it's already sold.

I would make it my highest priority to get over there if I could.
The intake is probably worth more than he wants for the whole engine.
If it were a 425, bonus. If it's some other nailhead it's still a good deal.

I agree. Cash is ready, truck is full of gas, fingers are crossed, checking email frequently. As soon as I hear from him, if I hear from him, I'm on my way

the valve covers could be worth $200-300 in addition to the value already mentioned for the 2x4 set-up.

I would be sure to take, or pack, a friend with me as it sounds a bit fishy to me. Best of luck with it.

In most cases, yes, something that appears to be too good to be true is exactly that, but everyday the good Lord shines down on someone and today it was me and this engine is now sitting in my garage. You'll have to use your imagination for how thrilled I was when I saw it. It's not only an engine, but a transmission with the yoke in the back of the trans as well, all the accessories, pulleys, brackets, exhaust manifolds, distributor w/electronic conversion (possibly Pertronix), two 1405 600cfm carburetors with Edelbrock air cleaners, dual quad carb linkage........and..........the big chrome dual snorkel dual quad air cleaner!!!!!

Here's what I have figured out so far. I believe it's a `64 425 4bbl. engine that someone added the dual quads to. Numbers are as follows: block casting #1364705, heads 1196914, intake manifold B1357106L, engine code KW 471, VIN 6K6017123, trans BN64-23646 Super Turbine 400 (I assume this is a TH400 because that's what it looks like).

Now for the best part....... I got it all for $400!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This stuff was left at the house by the previous owner. These nice folks bought the house two years ago and it has been sitting in a dry storage room attached to the house. They had no idea what is was other than it said Buick on it, was big, and they wanted it out so they could use the space for other things just like the ad said. I emailed them and got a response from them last night and told them I would come see it this morning. The asking price was $600. When I got there and looked it over I asked them what they would take for it. They didn't seem to know what to say so I asked if they would take $400. They said OK. I nearly pissed my pants

    Congrats dude :TU: !

I think your right about it being a '64 425 4bbl. That's what the trans decodes to as well.

You need to go to church and say a prayer of thanks for that score! One of the best parts scores I've seen on this board!

Is that an aftermarket intake? Appears to be aluminum?

    Good score by the way!

No, it's a factory intake just painted aluminum. I don't know what year the intake is if there is a difference between the three years. Hoping someone will shed some light on it.

So far I have pulled the plugs. They are Bosch Platinums. They look good but a little black which I suspect is probably from a rich mixture. Shining a light in the plug holes I can only see part of the pistons, which look like they have no more than just average carbon deposits on them. The engine turns over freely with a breaker bar. The starter appears to be the original #1107313 dated 4 C 5 and it appears to have been rebuilt. The distributor tag is 1111055 dated 3 M 30, also the original. The alternator is a `65, 1100710 dated 5 C 28.

I plan to change the oil and filter and run the pump with a drill and see what I get for oil pressure and decide where to go from there. This stuff was stored in nice dry storage and it shows, but I'll likely pull the heads and take a good look at it, possibly the pan and the bearing caps just to see exactly what I have. Beware Nailhead guys, I've never had one of these so I am going to have a lot of questions about it in the near future. I think I want to put it in my `65 and will be wondering what kind of performance I can expect to achieve from it and the availability of cams, headers, etc. Right now I'm wondering how heavy it is and if I can hook my 2004R to it. Anyone know?

Cams and headers are available. That along with a set of ported heads should yield right around 375hp. Get a little aggresive with the heads and you should be able to get 400hp.

You can bolt your 200R4 up to it, however that will require a trans adapter.

If the cam in it is original, and from the looks of the set up , I suspect that it is , it will be one of the Duntov 091 cams that really works good....

    Bill,
Merry Christmas! I have seen people stumble onto some great finds over the years but this one takes the cake. I'll likely tell this story to car friends for years. "You've done well Pilgrim".

I'm surprised no one commented on this yet but the intake appears to be on a forward slant which may indicate it was built for marine use. I've seen these forward slant intakes in single 4 barrel but never 2x4. I know there are people here that can expand on it. This is worthy of posting in the Bench forum.

    Congratulations!
