    Hi!

Is there anyone who got a front steering knuckle support removed from the vehicle? Im going to buy dropped spindles for my Buick Special 1955 and I need to remove the steering knuckle support from the vehicle and trace its outline on a sheet of paper and send that drawing to the fabrication company because its two different versions of the part. To save some time and work it would be lovely with som help here. I need the car rolling.

Ive attached a file that you see what Im talking about.

Sorry I cant help as my spindles are still attached but thought this link may be useful. Fatman list the same 2 1/2 drop spindle from 1937-56 for $395 pair, but you need to bend your steering arms which I dont like the idea of. Which company are you in contact with? and what are the 2 differences you refer to? Good luck.

Ive been in contact with Fat Man. They told me they got 2 different versions of the part and thats why they need the drawing.

Have you heard any problems when bending them.

55 was the onley year to have two different king pin angles, i had mine off on sunday to sketch a drawing to send to fatman and after several beers with the boys we all decided heating and bending the arm was a bit of a worry, so back together it went, next step bags!

Im considering the options as well and it maybe worth getting some modified steering arms made up (CNC machined?) to suit fatman dropped spindle supports, so the geometry stays the same, to avoid bump steer. I like the idea of bags as well but the extra 2 inches from dropped spindles would be great.
Downunder 55 what rear suspension system / setup did you use? when you went to the later engine trans combo.

hey Ross, i used a 10 bolt rear with triangulated 4 bar, fairly easy conversion, if you use the dropped spindles WITH bags you only get an extra inch out of the spindles, so for me with the dollar the way it is the spindles shipped are around $900.00 , that money for me is better spent on a bag set up, good luck and cheers, Brad.
