Ok i'm back at it again with my stupid rear end questions, How"s this one sound to you all and will it fit my 68 skylark, ( "74 El-camino, used 10 bolt posi rear out of 1974 SS el-camino. has a 2:73 ratio . complete from drum to drum. what do ya'll think, will it fit ?

I dont believe that it will fit. I'm pretty sure that one from a 68-72 Camino would fit becuase it was on the same platform as the Chevelle/A body. Wouldn't one from a '74 fit a car on the same platform as a Century of that year too?

The differential from a 1971 or 1972 Skylark will bolt right in, only requiring a slightly shorter driveshaft. Since these used the corporate 8.5 inch setups the posi units are very easy to get as well as ring and pinions.

Here is some great information that George Nenadovich has compiled

Hope this helps with your dream

yOU HAVE TO STAY in the 1965-1972 era. That is it nothing else will bolt in with out mods. Well major mods anyway...lol

Ok, Hows this then. Guy selling 68 pontiac GTO 10 Min. away from me, for only a few hundred dollers (shell of a car, totally rusted out). will the rear fit and any ideal if a posi came in them.

GTO might have a posi, but it was an option, not standard equipment on the 68 GTO.

What's wrong with the rear in your car? You can get a posi and gears for the 8.2 I think. Check with Monzaz.

I hope there is a unit, for my 8.2. Getting tired of trying to figure this rear stuff out. Rather just buy a posi unit, and possibly 3.73 gears, that will fit in my 8.2 houseing, get it installed and over with.

Have you tried to find someone on here close to you with an 8.5"? I've got 7 sitting around, but I am a little far from you.

The 68-70 8.2 is different than the 64-67 BOP 8.2. Parts are available for the 64-67 BOP rear, not so for the 68-70 Buick 8.2. Very little aftermarket support for those rears. Monzaz has some gears, but there are no aftermarket posis for them. The 68 GTO rear will fit. Are you sure you have the original rear in your 68? It might have been changed over the years.

I have no ideal at all. As far as i know it's the original rear.

    THis info is wrong.

We have aftermarket posi units for the 68-70 for the 3.23 and 3.42 original gears sets and for the 3.42 and 3.64 aftermarket gear sets

I also have Eaton posi units that will fit the 2.73 and 2.93 gear sets And I can modify the same unit to use the 2.56 gears also

The 3.64 and up gears set we have modified 3.36 pontiac aftermarket unit to fit the steeper gears.

So you ask and I can get you what you need and help you fgure out the possibilities I have been WORKING very hard to help keep the 68-70 rear in service for all the Buick original cars. They will more than do the job on the street behind any 455 or even some track duty when needed. BUILD them correct and they will treat you right. :)

    MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!! :beers2: :beer :TU:

Anyone know what a "Pontiac's Safe-T-Track 3.55 rear end" is ? In a 68 GTO i'm considering buying for parting out. Was thinking of installing the rear end in my 68 skylark if it was a posi.
