Free Riviera Sounded like a good deal

Sigh... I wish I had picked up on this fact when I was planning my re-build. I read a lot of testimonials on this site that said 10:1 or below was fine on pump gas if the combustion chambers of iron heads were polished. I remember spending a lot of time researching this before I decided to throw $$ at my iron heads.

Ha... not enough time researching... it seems...

Some cams are less prone to detonation. The TA 413 will work with 10:1, iron heads, and 93 octane.

Jason, just watch the plugs. Don't run more octane than what you need.

    Jason,
Do you drive the car hard? Nail it on a regular basis? That is when it will be most likely to detonate. Detonation at wide open throttle is the most damaging.

Next time you take the plugs out, look at the white porcelain insulator. Detonation shows up as spotting (silver to gray). The spots may glisten in the sunlight.

If you are using the lowest octane, I wouldn't drive it hard. I always use premium.

    Devon and Larry, Thanks!!!

I've yet to look at the plugs. But will once this cold spell passes. I pretty much just cruise around the city. I took it for 400 miles all around the coast a few months ago and she was fine. I rarely floor it-really. Well, sometimes if I have to get past some idiot.:) My wife loves the look on their faces when they realize they can't match my acceleration and I fly past em.:Do No:  :beer
