Did any of the 1968 GS 400s come with 430?

    Hello,

I recently acquired a 1968 GS 400 convertible, and I was told it was original. However, the valve covers say 430-4.

Is it possible it came from factory with the 430 or was this not an option in 1968 for the GS 400? I have read that 430s were only available in the B-body and all GS 400s in 68 came with 400.

Is is possible to obtain the original build sheet from the VIN?

    Thank you.

It's possible. I've heard there were some and know of one board member who knows the history of his car and it quite sure the 430 is orig. Only way to prove it would be by the stamping on the block matching the VIN.

Thank you. Stamping is too difficult to see currently but will get it cleaned up soon to see.

At the rear of the engine behind the intake you should find the casting #, and a 400 or 430. Could be someone just put the 430 decals on the valve covers.
