WHEW !! Was it HOT !!

There sure were a lot of cars there. More than I thought would show.

Dave H was shoe'n the Ram Rod, and got it to dip into the 13's. :TU:

Darryl got his '70 W-30 to run some 12.76's in the heat, which was AWESOME !

Gary Rubrich got his '72 diesel running 11.2x's - - with a 10 right around the corner. :beer

I was doing some experimenting .... :bglasses: I found out that by dropping the exhaust right behind my crossover, it didn't make a BIT of difference in ET or MPH. I was hovering at 13.0's at 106. Even with the heat, I was letting the car cool down for a LONG time before making a pass. I'm confident that on my car, losing the mufflers in the system have little, to no effect. :Smarty: And I sure did get a lot of :puzzled: looks when I fired it up with open exhaust. :bglasses:

And of course, I got the proverbial question about "How do you hook up with those tires ? " And the "What kind of suspension mods do you have in the rear ?" Of course I got that one with Papa and Paul Glasgo in the trailer, and we had JUST been talking about how people always ask those very same questions ........

Anyway - had a blast, got some sun, and learned that I need to bolt my exhaust back together before I get an un-necessary headache ...... :TU:

    Great time.....Lotsa fun

That was quite a blast. The Keith Elkins, Brian Robbins 72 Hurst Pro Mod car made a coupla 6 second 214+ runs. Well, kinda like a 72 Hurst................

Casey's car was really quite loud. Uncorked manifold cars don't sound that good (kinda like ghetto cruisers). Glad it didn't do any good so that won't happen again.

Best story of the weekend was Friday night tossing beers in the rain with the Trovatos and Laurers. New Mr Stroker Boy (AC Rubrich) was talking about his new combo and these 8 second madmen convinced him he needed more convertor. Dave Laurer went into his trailer and came out with a new 5500 one in the box and said, like this one. 10 minutes later, the car was in the air, flashlights were lit, and they made the change. Nothing scares those people. That'd take me three years!

Sure paid off, too as he went deep into the bracket race Sunday and even got a little cabbage to take home. Not bad. 10's are right around the corner.

I had fun as usual, won first round in the bracket race, but got put out very easily in the second round by a friend in a very fast car with a very experienced bracket racer driving. And he's even older than me!

Saw Papa Glasgo as we got off the turnpike at Norwalk on the way in. Said something about going to Cedar Point to ride the merry go round for a few hours or something. Word has it, they changed the suspension on the Merry go round and raised it up 4 inches or so (for that Akron look). Now the horseys and Dumbo look much bigger and more ferocious. Hear they stroked it, too to get more lift!

Funny about the Polyglas tires, I pitted with my friends in the Street Rockets and they were even offering to loan me their Drag Radials or slicks to see what my car would really do. When I told them it ran the same when we did try slicks on it a few years ago, their jaws dropped. It never spun all weekend (even with 4500 RPM launches) but was real sensitive to how fast I dropped the clutch (bogging). Friend next to me found out how much fun it is to run slicks with stock driveshafts, etc. Turned his driveshaft into a pretzel and took out the tailshaft on his T400 in his 68 442 with his new 455 motor.

Got some serious work to do on the Ramrod to get our 6 MPH back that we lost with this cam. Got a plan, though. Valve springs didn't help, but kept the valve float away that I had at Stanton. May have to go back up to the stock factory cam. :eek2:
