I Took My New Gsx P/s Racer Out For Its First Real Ride Tonight. Took It Easy Up To The Freeway And Decided To Head For the Local Cruise Night. Half Way There At 60 Mph I Decided To Stab It. The Car Jumped, Barked, And Broke Em Loose! Brand New Mickey Drag Radial 295/65/15. The Only Person More Scared Than Me Was The Poor Sob Behind Me. It Was Like A Bomb Went Off. It Took About Ten Minutes To Work Off The Adrenaline. I Was Running The Car Through The Rpm Range When I Noticed A New Gt Mustang Flying Up On Me. I Think He Thought The Surging Motor Sounds Were An Invitation To Race. He Pulled Up On My Rightand Gave Me A "what Is That" Look And Tried To Pull Away. Since I Had Nearly Just Killed Myself, I Decided That Discretion Is The Better Part Of Losers, And Jumped On It Again! This Time I Was Ready, But Ol Gt Johhny Was Not. It Scared Him So Bad he Ran Himself Onto The Shoulder. Very, Very Funny Only Because I Know How I Was Feeling Just A Few Minutes Earlier. Special Thanks To Frank Urbinati For Selling Me One Amazing Car.

    Phillip,

I am pretty good at finding the line, and NOT crossing it. Fear usually keeps a tight grip in the reins, and for now I am have plenty of it. Hope to see the track before too long! :bglasses:

Glad you guys liked my yarn! I have owned alot of cars in the last 16 years, and frankly its been getting harder and harder to get excited about any car.I am like a kid on Christmas morning with this one. Having alot of fun putting my little touched on the car, and I mean little. Frank did ALL the real work, and without his passion and the expertise of GRAND SPORT AUTOBODY AND D&D PERFORMANCE the car would be nowhere near what it is. To be honest, the Buick marque has resurrected my interest in cars, my expertise and experience is in Mopar, but they are now overpriced and I have owned nearly all of them. I am finding a comfortable home in Buick and am grateful for the experiences so far.

Tony, D&D did do the motor. I am getting more info from Frank on the build. What I think I know is that the motor is a 503 ci with Crower stroker crank and rods, je pistons, T/A stage 2 street eliminator heads with jessel valve train and head work. 10.7:1 compression. Ed at D&D told me he thinks the car dynoed 767hp and 680 torque, Frank is sending me the Dyno sheet next week. The intake is a Kenny Bell cool runner. I want to find an 1/8 mile track to run it first on, and maybe look for a Buick event this summer to attend. Either Salem or Norwalk in the fall. What is the story on your motor? :beer

Hey Bill.I could ramble on and on about Ed and the boys at D&D.They are well known around these parts for their engine and dyno work. They are pretty "Knowledged" about Buick engines, they used to race Buicks years back and have built a few BBB engines for some GSCA members for example. From what I gather from Ed, they are pretty good buddies with Frank Urbinati.I recall Ed telling me about building that engine for Frank, and I was quite impressed at the time with the parts used and what it dynoed.Always had a good time at D&D bench racing with the guys.
They are 30-40 minutes away from me so they were the most logical choice for my build.I took a day off work on "Dyno" day, lots of fun playing with jets and metering rods to get it as right as possible. They helped me build a nice "Street" engine, great machine work and oiling mods.
I am quite happy with it.Good to see you like your motor!! Later,Tony.

I LIKE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You aim it not drive it. My kind of car. You can never have too much horsepower. My TR runs High 10's-Low 11's but I have to wait for boost on the street before it incinerates the tires at speed. Just be sure you heve the sights zeroed in before you gas on it, that's all.

You guys are making me itchy with your stories. I just started my restoration project, disassembly mode, I've taken the interior out of it looking for holes in the floor pans. I've shortened my time line , wanting to complete the project in 5 years now it's down to 2 years. Keep the stories coming, I love to read about BUICK DOMINATION!!

Hey Bill, that is a beautiful car!!

I'm the guy who came in and talked to you at the bowling alley the other day, I told you that I had just picked up my '70 GS last summer.

I had to get to work otherwise I'd have checked out the other cars too, that was a good show. The cars were running up and down Gratiot past my office all evening, made me wish mine was ready to bring out too. I work right next to the Chevy dealership at Gratiot and 15 Mile rd, at a computer store (Advicon Computer Services), as me job to finance the Buick work. :)

We're pulling the motor and trans this weekend from mine. I've got to repair the core support and replace the inner fencer in the passenger side, and fix what we think might be a warped head. The motor sat for a very long time and this my first muscle car, so I'm learning the do's and don'ts of working on her.

There's a great place in Rochester (I can't remember their name) if you ever need work done, they are in the valley that runs through town. There is a bridge that crosses the valley if you're going north into town from M-59. They gave me a good repairing on repairing the core support and the inner fender. I saw some of their work, and it was excellent. They worked on a '70 Stage 2 that was sitting out front when I was there. They guy who owned it said that they did some incredible work for him. I think his car came from Vegas or Lake Tahoe, it's a cream colored GS. Hopefully you won;t need any work done for a very long time, but just in case...

I don't know if there are any 1/8 mile tracks around us, but Lapeer has their 1/4 mile track.

I haven't been out there in a few years. It's kinda small and a bit dumpy, but everyone seems to have a good time. They get some very fast cars out there, for it being such a small place. They are having racing this weekend, I'm hoping to make it out there.

    Here's their website

Well, I was wrong, I just checked their site and apparently they do have an 1/8 mile track now.

Great story . Just be careful out on the street .

When you go to the track just take it in steps. It shouldnt matter whether it is 1/8 or 1/4 mile . Just take it at your pace . Get the tires hot , stage, launch, go to the 60, then coast.Next time go a little farther. Just take it easy . You will know when your ready to drive it to the finish line . Your brain gets used to the acceleration. Soon you'll be trying ways to make it faster.
That is a stout piece at that compression -- impressive .
Good luck -- I'll make you a deal on that parachute!

    Scott,

I am sure our paths will cross again this summer. Good luck with the resto, your color is beautiful and I am looking forward to seing it. BTW, if you ever come accross some bucket seats, please let me know as I am changing the interior out soon.

    George,

Good advice! I want my first full pass to be a single. I don't want the distraction, and I don't want the added danger to him or me. (possibly her)
I will run the slicks a couple times and then see what the drag radials can do. Once this is done, I am changing out the 4:10's and spool for 3:90's and an eaton posi. Street will take precedence over the track. Thanks for the help, and for now, I will pass on the chute to keep it street looking. The car really looks stock except for the hood.

    Handful?

    Ron,

Handful? Handful Good or Handful Bad? There is a big difference. Have seen nothing bad yet, but I would love to hear what you know of the car and where you have seen it. Thanks, Bill

    Handful..........As in Animal !

I live on Long Island too, I know the car and Frank. It's all good.

Just be very careful playing with a 9sec. car on the street, things happen very fast!

    Good luck and enjoy it!
