ok, just curious, how do you guys determine what the redline is on these newly built engines that produce incredible horsepower? what seems to be the highest RPM these 455's get? and what's the stock redline and where is the safe place to shift? i'm asking this about stock mainly because i'm interested in going to Milan for the centennial and possibly taking the car down the strip a few times but i'm not sure what the redline is and whether i can get my hands on a nice tach by then either... just don't wanna blow the engine up getting to hard on it...

from my experience it is alot easier with slicks and a trip to the track start shifting at different points adn find the best time. this isn't the best way.

Dyno will get you right ther but in my street motor, that makes about 470horse and 530torque i shift at 5300.

It all depends on a lot,
    cam specs,
    flow numbers
    carb
    exhaust
    etc.......

every motor is different and its hard to really say. If it is a street motor i'd keep it at or under 5500RPM.

these motor make a lot of low end power:beer

When the rod is sticking through the block...then you know you red-lined her   sorry couln'd resist.

With mine I was shifting about 6300 and going through the eyes at 6600 running 9.80's. With stock rods I would figure to keep it under 6,000. As with other guys with mega engines such as Doug Hecker and others I think they are going through around 7,000. I'm sure one of those guys or Jim Weise will add to this.

holy RPM's batman... 7grand? that's insane... out of a big block no less... wow... i knew we had the shortest stroke of all the 455 engines.. but dang... that's some seriously large diameter pistons these things are pushing around at those RPM's... wow... i'm impressed.. and.. i want one :)
