I have access to a Demon 850 off of a 572 620hp chevy. The price may be free. Is this going to gain me anything over my q-jet?

Ive heard less-than-positive comments about the Demon carbs, out of the box, anyway. Had to do with fuel curve, if I remember. If your going up from a 750 q-jet, you might be able to dial in some more hp at WOT, but off-idle and midrange throttle response might not be as snappy as what youre used to with the small primaries on the q-jet. The mechanical secondaries on the 850 can be impressive, though!

If its free (or close to it) it might be worth a try, especially if your combo is pretty healthy and needs the added airflow already.

    Thanks Devon,
Actually I have an 850 Edelbrock q-jet, ported heads, 413 cam, sp-1, headers, modified 200r4 with 3:73 rear end. Best run so far is 12:85 105mph with 1.92 60ft. I struggle to get enough air and fuel into it.

I am thinking the 850 is too small. It may be possible to get a Demon 1090 off of the 720 hp chevy. Trying to figure out if that carb has a dominator base.

I am starting to think the best bet is to sell the q-jet and get a custom AED holly.

I recently and reluctantly put a 850 mighty demon on my car from the prodding of my friend to try and it has been the best carb I have ever run and I have had 850 holly 1000 hp holley 1050 dom. and even tried an 1150 dom and so far that little demon runs as good as BG claims if not better :Do No:

Too many choices! I think the 850 I can get is the street Demon, not the mighty Demon. The other choice is listed as a 1090 Demon for the 720 hp. Here is a pic

the street demon isn't as good as the mighty demon the 850 mighty I was told from their tech line is actually 1050 + cfm and was also told it was basically thier 1000 race demon with some different features

I have a 575 speed demon on a stock 350 chev. It is far better than the 750 Edelbrock preformer that it replaced, which was vastly better than the Q-jet it replaced. Demons are very adjustable. You must adjust these carbs by the factory manual. When I first got mine it would not run worth a sh.. Then I got the manual out and it is smooth a glass.

Q-jets are very very good carburetors, they are tough to tune sometimes.I think you will be happy with the demon carb because they are easier to adjust and tune.Be shure to select the right cfm for your application. Hope this helps.
