I had a sheet on decoding the body tags for 1965 Buick Skylarks but darn if I can find it . Searched Google for the last hour and could not find the information . What I need to decode is 65 Skylark GS as follows : LR315 NK132 BF4710 CAA 158 C14 J50 N40 U63 . Any help or email me a data sheet please . Thank you , George fxandhds94@aol.com
George, I can help with a few of these codes: 158 should be black bucket seats. LR315 translates to Midnight Aqua on lower body, and flame red on upper body, which sounds like a real interesting combination.o No: I don't know what the 315 is. C14 is Two speed windshield wipers. N40 is Power steering. U63 is Sonomatic Radio with manual antenna.
LR 315 L = 1965 R = 400 V8 315 = Nov.10,1964 NK 132 NK = S.T. 300 132 = May11,1964 BF 4710 BF = 3.36 4710 = I have several ways to read this and I think there all wrong. When my 65 book decides to re-appear I will check. J50 = Brake System, Vacuum Power :TU:
:TU: no problem Tom. If you look at these codes long enough they will make your brain explode :eek2: In the next few weeks or so I will be adding the 64,65,66 info to the atlantabuick.com site. :TU: David
Thanks guys this is a help . The car is white with a black top ( paint ) and I'm trying to find out if that's correct . If there is a web-site that has these codes on it that would be a great thing to post . Thanks again , George
Can you check the firewall tag?? It should have "CA" for the colors you stated, which were Arctic White (C) and Regal Black (A). I believe that 'thepartsman' here is going to try to get some of those codes posted on the Atlanta Buick site over the next several weeks. Other thn that, I'm not aware of any such present site.
George, are those codes on the body plate or on the warrenty book protecto-plate? I know they are on the p-o-p, but most assembly plants don't include the codes on the cowl plate. Here's a decoder from the '65 Buick service bulletins. The 3 digit number after the engine and trans letter codes are some kind of 'production code'. As far as I know, they don't have any relationship to a date. My '66's have codes like MR513, MR452, which won't translate into day-of-year date codes. I'll e-mail you the full size scans!
Those codes are on the protecto plate . I only have those codes . I'm looking to buy this car and he did not send any pictures of the data plate . I'm hoping to go see the car in the next couple of weeks . The pictures look real good and I thought the codes from the protecto plate would be the same as is on the firewall . Thanks for the info , George
The protecto-plate in the warrenty book will give you much more info. The cowl plate will not have the engine or trans codes, so it will not identify a car as being a true GS. You show eng code of LR, and trans code of NK .....those are 'GS only' codes. The 3-digit number after those codes (LR 315 and NK 132) should also be stamped into the engins and trans. And of course, the partial VIN will be stamped on the eng block. Bucket seats were a required option on GS's in '65. Cowl plate stampings vary between assembly plants. Kansas will have all the codes, Baltimore will have some, and Fremont won't have any. Good luck with the purchase!:TU:
David, I dug up the engine production codes and build dates of my '66 GS's: Two are from the Fremont plant: Body# 00749, Built 01D, Eng# MR289 Body# 00968, Built 03A, Eng# MR355 (Originally stamped MT, then corrected) Three from the Baltimore Plant: Body# 1853, Built 05C, Eng# MR452 Body# 1972, Built 06C, Eng# MR513 Body# 2114, Built 07D, Eng# MU353 (Has the optional Q-jet 340hp engine) There does seem to be a pattern, maybe it does it relate to an actual date!... The oddball would be the MU code engine....there were 132 built with that option (which became avail in March 1966). So 'MU353' seems to be related more to the date than to the quanity built..... Do you know if the engines made at a single plant? If you need more '66 info, there are a couple of guys with several that may be able to help: DanK Elliot THEGSX I'd be cool to finally figure this out!
