    Hello all,

    I am inposession of a 1963 LeSabre Convertible.

    The Data tag on the left door post has the following alpha-numerics:

    4J5023170

    I know:
    4 = 4400 V-8 LeSabre
    J = 1963
    5 = Wilmington

    The next six are the series production numbers. Could someone please help me with the definition of the six digits at the end.

    Is this the number of the 4400 series produced or the all the Buicks produced?

    I have a three speed transmission "on the tree" and can't find any documentation that the car even came with one and the original owner said it came that way. I have heard that there was a fire at the transmission factory towards the end of the run. :confused:

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance!

    4 = LeSabre

    J = Model year 1963

    5 = Built at the Wilmington, DE factory

    023170 = Model year 1963 production number for the Wilmington factory

    The three speed manual transmission was the standard transmission for the model year 1963 LeSabre.

    "Twin Turbine" automatic transmission in the LeSabre: US$ 231 option.
    Four speed manual transmission: US$ 263.38 option.

    You are not going to get a lot of info from the VIN, you need to decode the data plate.
    Lets see some photos of the car.
