David Reese misrepresents differential

I bought an 8.5 inch posi rear from David Reese in the Dallas area that he said had 4.10 gears. A good friend of mine was in Dallas last weekend and brought it back with him. Today I pulled the cover and it has a 39 tooth ring and a 10 tooth pinion. That's 3.90 not 4.10. I sent an E-mail telling him as much as his reply didn't have one apology, no "I'm sorry", just a bunch of excuses. He says I should be happy because 3.90 gears are worth more than 4.10 gears and if I will drive it back to Dallas (560 miles round trip) he will refund my money and sell it for more than the $850 I paid! Wow. I told him I won't waste a whole day and the gas and wear on my truck to take it back to Dallas. I asked for $150 returned to me and I'll be happy. He won't budge. I seem to find all the Deadbeats on this board. Character is rare these days.

if it is a solid rear end you are needing, the difference between a 3.90 and a 4.10 is pretty minimal. If it is definitely a 4.10 you need, I would be either 1) driving the thing back for refund or 2) have him supply the correct ring gear upon which you can return the 39 tooth ring gear or 3) use the 3.90 and move on

It sounds like an honest mistake...I would use the 3.90 and not look back

Not alot of difference between a 410 and a 390. I would just go with it.

KC- Your first solution would mean me and my friend drive a total of 1120 miles and have nothing to show for it? No way.
Your second solution- Who is going to pay to set up the new gears and ship the old one's back?
I'm going with the first solution. An apology is all I really wanted. It's just a test of David's character as to how he would respond to the problem. He failed in my opinion. If he had responded-"I'm sorry, I screwed up, how can I make it up to you?" or "I'm sorry man, I can drive down to San Antonio and pick it up and give you your money back". I probably would of said-"No big deal" and just let it go. Thanks

Keep on slaming me DrBuick and I'll get in here with both feet and tell 'em how your one of those who's trying to get something for nothing!!

    All hell here goes!

Your a full time scammer aint ya!

The fact is, I told him I must have miss counted and offered a full refund trying to do the right thing. Forget it, NOT NOW or EVER!

This after he purchased the rearend on the 23rd of JUNE and agreed to send his friend (soon to be son in law) on the weekend of the 26th of JULY. The day before he sent an e-mail asking if the rearend comes with a set 0f 3:08's I answer no only the 4:10's. I tell him I know where another rearend just like this one, and ask if he's interested. Then there's an email and he's asking for anything. A 3:08, 2:73 or 2:23's he doesn't care. Does this mean hes ready to buy another rearend or is he llooking for those ratios if I have them laying around?

When his future son in law and I meet here in Dallas on the 26th. We load the rearend and he calls to tell DR Buick to tell him there are no xtra gears? As if I short changed the DR. Hell look at the add it states 4:10's and if you want original you need to buy a set of 3:08's.

Then when I get home there is an e-mail telling me not to worry about the xtra gears????? I wasn't worried to begin with!

Then a week later, I'm accused of mis representing the gears. Told him I might of miss counted. He's mad over no apology. he accused me of being a liar! Hell he could of said, David is there a chance you can't count or somethig else! Not misrepresenting something, what a cheap slam.

Do the Math he expects me to buy the new gears!

Here is my EBAY ID: stangsandgoats (230) No negitave feedback!

The fact is on all my adds there, I offer like others! "REFUNDS WITH IN THREE DAYS OF PURCHASE!"

In the add on here there is no mention of refunds and none was discussed!

He is the slammer here! No he is the SCAMMER HERE! He wants me to pay for his new gears! Looks like I found the V8 Buick DEADBEAT!

He threatened me with the negitave feedback on here if I didn't give him 150.00. Amaising, thats what new gears cost!

Sorry I ever met the scammer!

I can't say that, we never met! He sent a boy to do a mans job! If its such an issue, then why in the name of the lord didn't he send that boy with some tools: 1/2" wrench to open the cover and have that boy count the gears! Then he could of called to tell him the gears are not 4:10s and I don't have xtra gears either!!!!

I have since recieved mail saying he slammed my name, but he forgives me! What is this guy? DR or dimwit?

This pc of junk is a DR, and on your forum? Hell wounder what happens when you tell him to go PLAY!

What a scammer. Like I said NO REFUNDS NOW OR NEVER! Also NOTHING FOR FREE!!!!!!!!

Sorry to hear about that. Don't give up though. There are some good people still around. David Reese may be one of them. I agree with you. You have to buy something based on their description, and you have to trust them. I don't like it when it doesn't match up.

So you are saying that semantics and perceived manners are the only hold up from you doing just that...letting it go? Quit grinding the axe and let it go or return the thing. I don't see the guy as doing anything in a deadbeat fashion...he did make a mistake on the gear ratio (albeit slight) but how is $150 supposed to "fix" that?
