And it's not for his roll in Pepe Does Saginaw either! :pp :pp

Actually Dave is just nominated for the Oscar, while honorable mention goes to "NeatSS" Dave McCutcheon!!! Nice comments for both of the guys. And well deserved!

This is found in the newest issue of Musclecar Enthusiast! On page 74 in the "Readers Speak Out" section, Mike Seibold from Illinois writes:

"I really am not sure when my subscription ends since I am one of those fellows who lost Musclecar Review and ended up with "HotDog" magazine once a month in its place. After that little episode I went with Tom Shaw and hoped his new venture would succeed.

Over the years I have met and talked with Tom and Paul Zazarine many times at various events, the best of all being the Pure Stock Drags! Thanks to Dan (Jensen) and Bob (Boden) team in Michigan.

Last May I stood on a cold day in Indiana and watched you (Steve) take pictures of Dave Heilala's RamRod Olds. Any man who walked his car down the assembly line, drove it out the door, went on his honeymoon to Florida, and finally came back to drag race it three decades later deserves an OSCAR!!

In case conversation about driving musclecars ever comes up with Tom Shaw, Dan Jensen, or Bob Boden, ask about the two guys from southern Illinois who drove a green SS396 '70 Chevelle to Stanton, Michigan, 575 miles one way, drag raced it for two days and turned the air on and drove back home year after year. Just for the record, the old car has 175,000 miles, turns consistant high 14's which is right on the money, for "Pure Stock." The car belongs to my good friend Dave McCutcheon. I could ramble on for pages but I know you have heard it all before. So to keep it brief, I enclose a check for another year.......whenever it starts. Keep up the good work.

Absolutely right, Frank. Nice letter from Mike

Mike(who wrote the article) and Dave(who owns the Chevelle) are great people. We met them the first year we had the motor done for the small block shootout, but missed the event with that pesky oil plug that kept popping out. Gary, Rob, and I were washing off the greasy fingerprints from an overnight thrash when Dave and Mike pulled into the car wash next to us.

I love their attitude on driving that Chevelle so far to race it, then click on the A/C and drive back home. If it breaks and they can't fix it easily, go over to Uhaul, rent a truck and trailer and tow it home. Lots cheaper than buying those things and a whole lot more fun.

Having a close friend on a trip like that really helps. My brother, Rick, and I have had some fun ones over the years and it's more of an adventure with someone else along. That's what you need to do, Rusty. Get a buddy to ride along. Your little guy isn't quite ready for that yet. Your wife may never be ready for that.

Pretty good angle of the car launching in that pic. Steve winked at me just as I went into the burnout box, so I really hammered it (John Force style) with my left foot on the brake, and my right foot in the Qjet. It likes to get sideways. Gotta be a pic of that burnout in his camera, too.
Lotsa quick footwork doing that with a fourspeed (and stopping before the starting line). Fun, though.

Actually, we drove the car to New Orleans for our honeymoon on back roads all the way down from Michigan and back through St.Louis. My wife had never seen that part of the country and you just don't see it from the Eways. Having lived down there, I knew some real out of the way places to see. 75+ MPH with a 3.91 rear end on the Eway also gets a little old. Couldn't hear Marvin Gaye or Credence Clearwater through the 8 track. Also the rest areas on the Eways didn't sell Budweiser.

Hi Dave! I can't wait to see the coverage on the Ramrod. Mike has probably seen the letter in the magazine, but I will have to tell him you guys are talking about him on the net. Mike and I attended the PSMCDR is '96. Mike could not make it in '97, so I went alone. We have made all the rest of the Stanton races since. My wife and son came with me in June of this year. I figure I have made 10 trips to Stanton in the Chevelle. This should be about 12,000 miles total. Needless to say we really enjoy it!!! GREAT PEOPLE...GREAT CARS...GREAT TIME!!! :) Looking forward to the next one! :bglasses:

    Dave

PS Deb took the Chevelle to the beauty shop last week and it turned 178K!

Reid will be driving by April of 06. :eek2: For his 16th birthday present he is planning on racing the Chevelle at Stanton in Sept. :3gears: This means I have to have a new car finished before then.
