I opened my January 2005 edition of MCE and who appears in a feature article but our own Dave H. I really like the circa 1968 photo of a trim Dave, then a mere age 48, escorting his own car down the Olds assembly line.

Dave H is the "Dick Clark" of Pure Stock racing! And all these years when people have been calling Dave "Dick" behind his back was because he looks so young

    Haven't seen it yet, but..................

Talk about irony........... I mowed Dick Clark's lawn when I was in high school in the Philadelphia area. He lived about a block from my parents. That was before the payola scandal killed off American Bandstand and he moved out to the West Coast. Met Chubby Checkers, Fabian, and a few other of the "biggees" back then. Even got him to bring his "road show" to our high school to a school dance. They were just introducing the dance "The Watusi!" Wah, Wah, ah, Wah-Tusi" Fun times. I used to put my little old mower into the trunk of my 41 Ford convertible and cruise on over there. Paid $3, took me 2 hours.

48 in 68? If it's the pic I think it is, it was taken in the mid to late 80's. Couldn't find the one we wanted that was taken at a sports car race in July 1968 with my now wife, then girlfriend, and I sitting on top of the car. I weighed 165# then, today I'd crush it!

I thought I would give those who have not recieved their copy or do not subscibe to MCE a seek preview of Dave's pic on the assembly line. He sure looks like he was excited that day. Sorry about the pic being in black and white but Dave tells me there were very few color prints back then.

  So your saying that Henry Ford and Dave H worked hand in hand to develope the modern assembly line

I see what you are saying. I may have inadvertently posted the wrong Dave H pic . I think that is the circa 1934 pic when he was only 19.

Dave said he got to know David Buick and Walter Chyrsler pretty well but not Henry.

    Mike,
I guess we shouldn't expect a Mopar Man to know that Ransom Eli Olds invented the modern assembly line, not Henry Ford. Olds started this technique in 1901, producing what is arguably the first affordable, high-volume automobile. Ford learned how from Olds. Just ask Dave. He was there.

Congratulations, Dave! I'm eagerly awaiting my MCE.

As if I don't wait on my issue enough as it is, now I have to wait in anticipation of seeing a youg Dave! :moonu: Remember Dave, when you were walking that car down the line was 2 years before I was born. In model years, I would have been a late 70 model. You know what has been said in the past, "The musclecar era peaked in 1970!" :Dou:

I am a 71 but probably would be considered a early 72 model year since I was built in 10/71

    Jamie:

The 72's were arguably the best A body ever built by GM. They had an extra year to get them right as the 73 major change was supposed to happen in 72, but got delayed a year by the major UAW strike in the Fall of 1970 (just as we were launching the 71 models). About the time we figured out how to do things right, they came along and changed it again.

So.....you can either feel really good about being from the prime year, or really bad as you weren't "planned".

Now Rusty, we built a lotta junk in 3rd quarter 1970........ :Do No: :Do No: :beer

I just picked up the previous issue.

Now I'll have to shoot down to the bookstore until the Jan. issue comes in.

btw-I'm the same age as the W machine.

    Built in 9/69. :D

Got my issue today and read the article. COOL!!!!! :TU:

A few misc ramblings. I remember that Pure Stock race back in 99 when you (actually Rob) busted the driveshaft and cracked the bellhousing.
Also, the engine shot in the article. That intake manifold sure looks like it says "W-350" on it to me. :Do No: I also now realize why you asked about my bypass hose as you have the metal pipe with straight hose while I have the curved hose. How come you don't have a fan shroud? Also, I didn't realize you helped out with the 68/69 Hursts. Thats also cool :TU:

That's when I met Dave for the first time. They were thrashing on the thing in the hotel parking lot.
