Trying to decode the build dates and interiors from the trim tags on 2 '71 GS's:

    TR 165 09B and TR 168 09B

I want to buy one of the reproduction blue door jam stickers. Based on the 09B, what would be a reasonable date and month to put on the sticker?

The distributor in the original '71 TR coded 455 has a date code of 1C 3. What does it decode to?

The block has a 233 stamped under the TR. Is this a date code?

    Thanks,
    Donny

    Donny,

The Body Build Date "09B" is the second week of September of 1970. (for a 71 car)

"I want to buy one of the reproduction blue door jam stickers. Based on the 09B, what would be a reasonable date and month to put on the sticker?" (September of 1970)

The distributor date code of "1C 3" is March 3, 1971.

"The block has a 233 stamped under the TR. Is this a date code?" It is a date code of sorts, but I will not discuss it. The actual date when your block was cast should be visible on the passenger side, just behind the front cover.

PS. All this info and more is included in the Date Code Book which I wrote earlier this year.

165-Pearl white bucket seats, 168-black buckets 09B- second week of September 1970. early cars. I would put September 70 on the sticker as it was early enough not to have gone into October. The 233 is just a factory sequence code and the 1C3 is 71, March 3. A little off for the build dates. were both cars the same build date? pretty odd.

Early Sept of '70 body production does not follow the norm, esp as one is looking at bodyshells built by Fisher body right before the Fall '70 Strike. As a result, many in the body bank were not assembled until mid to late Nov of '70.

The Fall '70 UAW strike on GM affected all GM divisions & all suppliers. This crippling strike began on Monday Sept 14th & lasted 67 days. Basically everything production wise was shut down! In the Pontiac world, I have verified this "gap" in respect to several 09B body built A-bodys & F-bodys along with tracking casting dates on blocks, heads, waterpumps, & intakes & date stamping of rally II wheels, alts, distribs, & starters.

When exactly in the assembly process was the blue mylar decal affixed to the door, that is a good question. Possibly one Dave H could answer. If one has the larger style original buildsheet, it should have the date of assembly on it. Don't be surprised if the assembly for an 09B body built '71 was in late November of '70.

    Got Posi?
