    Hey Guys,

I'm swapping my 2 barrel over to a 4 barrel. I'm in need of a dashpot bracket for a 350 4 barrel intake. What's that you say? The '71 and earlier cars have a non-electric screw-in dashpot that the throttle arm sits against when the throttle is closed. The '72 and later cars have the electric throttle solenoid that kicks up the idle when the a/c is on. See the pic of the 2 barrel bracket. Has to come from a '71 or earlier 350-4 intake. The 2 barrel or the big block bracket won't fit. I know it's a small part, but I hope someone would take the time to respond if you can help. Not looking for a freebie, will pay for the part.

    Thanks,
    Donny

Unless you're going for originality, that dashpot isn't really needed. It's purpose was to close the throttle slowly to: (1) smooth out the driving experience, and (2) keep from maybe stalling the engine when the distributor vacuum goes away as the ported vacuum closes off. You can switch from ported vacuum to full vacuum, your engine will thank you.

I'm going to a yard this afternoon, I'll keep my eyes out for one. :beer

James - I do want it to appear stock, but how do I switch from ported to full vacuum?

Didn't find a dashpot today, but it's a huge yard and I'll keep looking. :Brow:

If your dist vacuum is hooked up to a port on the driver's side of the carb front, it'f likely ported vacuum. Easy check, with the engine idling, pull the hose and check for vacuum - then open the throttle. If it's ported, you'll have none at idle, and lots when the throttle opens.

On my carb, the full vacuum port is on the passenger side front of the carb, up high on the carb body.

If this makes no sense, you might search the forum for a .jpg picture. Somebody's posted one, I don't recall where. If you can't find it, let me now and I'll get you a pic.
