I am looking to replace the 3.5" corner stereo speakers in my 70 Chevelle SS dash. There are many choices but I don't buy into advertising hype. Just want a set that will work with my Kenwood stereo and 6 x 9"s in the rear without breaking the bank and hurting my ears. Any ideas or opinions. I have been leaning towards Kenwood or Kicker but like I said the choices are endless!
I usually look at the range of the speakers when choosing, that will tell you if it will give you any low/mid bass output if you're concerned about that. Some speakers might have 20-20000 Hz ratings and others might be 800-23000 Hz. The first numbers have a decent chance of giving you a little bass in your sound, the second set of numbers will be mostly midrange and above.
I hear that I have to be careful with magnet clearance. However, without taking the dash pad off I have no way of knowing for sure what will fit. Crutchfield was trying to sell me on Kicker 47KSC3504 speakers ( allegedly top of the line) but they have no chart as to what specifically fits the 70 Chevelle SS.
Just don't expect 3 1/2" speakers to reproduce bass. You may want to wire in some bass blockers so that the speaker does not distort. https://www.amazon.com/Bass-Blocker-Crossover-Tweeter-Capacitor/dp/B07RG5VP8K You need to disassemble first and see what kind of clearance you have. Crutchfield can tell you speaker depth.
As Larry suggested, use some type of cross over for the fronts. Use the fronts for mid range and treble, the rears for bass
There is not a lot of room for the magnet. That is why is uses a speaker with the magnet at an angle on the left side.
