I have a 1970 Buick Skylark 350 automatic. I'm in the process of converting it over to disc brakes but yesterday noticed that while the key was removed from the ignition and in the OFF position, the GEN and OIL lights were on on the dash panel. Any ideas what could be causing this problem?

Sounds most likely the key /ignition switch is misadjusted and it’s actually in accessory position. But can be an alternator/regulator issue.

Check the wiring at the starter and make sure nothing is touching.

I second the possible problem ignition switch problem. It's located on the steering column just under the dash with a rod running to it from the key switch. They are inexpensive and easy to replace.

If the Ignition switch was in the ACC position the OIL light would not be on with the GEN light . ONLY the GEN light would be on

It could be the key is worn out and released in accessories position

Could be the headlight switch dimmer is in the interior light position.

I don’t believe that would power up gen and oil light unless something else is also shorted.
