To all engine builders, i got a dyno program for my computer and have been messing around with cam specs. I was wondering if some of you could cross reference these specs and tell me if it is good for my combination.

    Engine
    464
    edelbrock intake
71 heads small valves home port job.
    76 block
    stock rods
weisco flat tops, 10.57 to 1 compression
needs to run on 93 octane

    cam specs @ .050
    .217 in
    .255 ex
    112 lobe center

    500 lift for stock rockers
    overlap 12

I am getting over 500 ft lb of torque from 2500 to 4000 with a 800 cfm carb. max hp is 444 at 5500 rpm

with better heads and single plane power shoots up.

computers cant simulate air flow . I think your nums are to be considered as theory, not even close to fact

That cam you came up with is some kind of odd ball. 217/255 split @.050" is way to much for any normal engine anyway. 10-20* difference between IN and EX is more with the program. Buick had their 225/253 Stage 2 cam but is not really popular because better results can be had with less difference between intake and exhaust durations.

Let's just say the numbers from some of those programs just don't work with the Buick engine for one reason or another. You can spot trends when changing things around but as far as the actual HP/TQ numbers go they are usually optimistic otherwise everybody would have 600 HP engines for their daily drivers. One of the best examples is when you change from dual plane to single plane intake. By the numbers they give you'd think factory stock engines should be running a single plane. Real world, my car running in the high 11's picked up .1 sec and 1 mph changing the intakes. Same with headers on my car when it was running low 12's. Headers from ported exhaust manifolds picked up the same .1/1mph. 440 HP isn't really hard to hit with some decent ported heads on a 455 but it'll never happen with only 217* of intake opening. On a chassis dyno with good heads my car made peak power at 5450 with an intake duration of 236* so that 5500 peak power rpm your program lists seems a good bit off. However the engine you are describing could be a 12 second car set up nicely with the right cam and who cares about the HP level.
