Has anyone put a CSR shield on a Turbo 400 in a GS? If so, how? I can only get 3 bellhousing bolts in it. The firewall is in the way due to the length of the bolts.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

IMG_0001.JPG Are you talking about a carbon fiber transmission shield that covers the entire trans? I installed one on a '73 and it was not fun. I removed the crossmember and lowered the rear of the trans as far as I could. To make matters worse on mine, I also lowered the body on the frame 3/4" so I had very little clearance. I also had to cut it out slightly around the cooler line fittings so I could get a wrench on them. Then there's the dipstick tube. You can't just bend the the bracket so the bolt will go in because it will change the angle that the tube goes into the trans and possibly leak and the tube may also hit the firewall. I ended up installing the bolts through the trans before I put the trans up in place. Make sure that the bolts and bolt holes are in good shape so that you can run them in all of the way with your finger. If I remember correctly, I also bent, I mean reformed the pinch weld where the firewall and floor meet. I invented some new words that night, but got it installed.

Tom, I used to have one for like one season. Was very difficult to work around. Went to an Ultra Bell soon after.

I still use the CSR Shield. Drill ~3/4" holes through firewall for bolts and mount/tighten from the inside. Use 12 point flange head bolts as well.

I use one, my motor is set back in the engine bay. I had to use a large hammer yo gain tunnel clearance. I had to cut several tabs off the bellowing so it would sit better on the trans. If I'm dropping the trans and not the motor I must use a 1/4" 3/8th 12pt with swivel to get the top 4 bolts.

Also had to modify a touch around the cooler lines and dipstick
