.......on the end of the turn signal stalk. Mid 70's Buicks. What's inside? Can they come apart for repair? Mine will lock cruise on if I play with it long enough. Thanks for any & all input.

I just pulled one off a steering column from a 71-73 Riv. You can have it cheap if it helps. Ron

    Ron,

I could use that as the one I have on mine is broken. Are you interested in getting rid of it?

Yep, I don't need it. Make an offer, make sure it covers postage, you can have it. Ron

Paul, I'm not sure about the '77 models but I know that in 1974-76, there were 3 different turn signal stalks with cruise control switches available. The most common one was used on the non tilt, no airbags and tilt without telescope column (retained by a screw on the flasher switch), there was another style with a threaded end for cars with tilt/telescope steering and third style wich I think was just pressed in the flasher switch for cars with airbags (I never tried removing mine)...

    Thanks Phil,
I have the one that presses into the switch...still looking for it...it's a bugger to find.

You have a tilt-non telescopic column?

Is your dimmer switch in the floor or is it actuated by the turn signal stalk?

Yes on the tilt....no on the telescopic. Dimmer switch is the t/s stalk.

So I'm guessing you're more likely to find the correct turn signal stalk with cruise switch on a newer Buick. Prior to 1977, it was a very rare option. I think it was available on the '76 Riviera S/R and maybe on some intermediates and Skylarks but I don't know if the turn signal stalk from these models interchange with yours. Maybe someone with a parts manual and parts numbers could help you with that.

I've got the microfich for 76-81. I'll have to check it again. IIRC they used a multifunction switch starting in 79. The switch I'm looking for was mostly 77-78.

    Looked it up... Grp. 2.897, # 25030526.
    77-80 B, C w/cruise control (K30).
    Lever w/switch, w/turn signal & cruise control.

That part was easy....now to try & find one.

    Success....Almost.
Using my 76-81 micro-fiche I obtained the origial part number. It crossed to another number. Went to my friend at the local ACDelco warehouse. Part was obsoleted a few years ago. After many key strokes he found 3 at a GM warehouse but he couldn't order them. He made a few phone calls and they were released. I bought all 3. The shaft that pushes into the t/s switch is chrome but the handle is black with the CRUISE in white. I think the same handles were used on Chevy & Pontiac. I installed one yesterday in the Riviera and the cruise works great. The other 2 pieces of gold went on the parts shelf. I pryed the old one apart and they appear servicable if your careful. Start by popping the button off the shaft from the switch. Before going any further I would try "contact cleaner and lubricant" in a spray can from Radio Shack. Spray it down the shaft into the switch. If that doesn't fix it...using a thin ice pick work the star washer holding the switch into the body lifting one finger at a time until the star washer retainer pops out. The switch can be pulled out of the assembly but the pigtail will be attached. I haven't gone any farther to find out how the wires are attached to the switch. I'm thinking about swapping switches between the sticks so I can get the OE look back.
