Cross member modifications for TKO in a 72

I have read many posts on tremec installs where people are modifying the cross member. What is actually being modified? I have a 72 skylark convertible in the process of a frame off.

I am running a 455 with stock bell housing, an older tko 5 speed (as it has taken about 8 yrs to get to this point) and manual clutch.

I am in the process of completing my drive train with the body off the car so to this point most of it has bolted up fine using an unmodified stock t350 cross member with a urethane mount with the exception of having to drill out the back holes in the frame for the cross member. I know that the trans tunnel will be cut to accomidate the trans height.

Will I have problems running a stock cross member, does this mean the trans will sit too high to get the correct drive angle? As a note I am also running adjustable upper rear axle mounts to adjust rear end angle.

    thanks

The only modification you SHOULD do is move the crossmember back. Moving it down can upset the pinion angle and make it incorrect.

People usually do this to avoid cutting up the trans tunnel. Be prepared to cut up part of the floor as well.

Im not 100% sure about this for the TKO but the above applies to the tremec/BW T56's.

Your best bet is to contact Keisler. If for some reason you do need to move the crossmember down, im sure there is an aftermaket peice for it. You can either buy the aftermarket peice, or figure out exactly where they move the mounting point so you can fabricate it yourself.

    This page might help you.
