While reading some the most recent post on the pros and cons of going with a 470 set up.
I've chosing to go with the extra cubes for the added price.
My question is if my crank has already been turn 010 010 can it be used for the slight offset need for the 470 set up.
Or would I have to go with a standard crank.

You should still be able to do it, but the crank will probably be .010 under at the 2.20 inch journal size.
Or put it at standard 2.20 and you'll give up maybe .005 in stroke.
Are you planning on what pistons and stuff to use with this combo? You will be moving the piston up in the bore a little.
If you are just thinking about doing it just to do it, I don't think the extra 6 cubic inches form a 464 or 8 cubic inches from a 462 are worth the extra expense. Jim Burek

Thanks for responding so if I'm right you're saying that with just a 470 build up. the extra 6 to 8 cubes wont justify the added cost.
My thoughts were that longer rods give more torque.and that the lighter, shorter pistons will allow the engine to rev quicker. Add in better flowing heads and more compression to take advantage of the extra cubes along with taking another 150 to 200 pounds off of the
the weight of the car would get me to my goal.
I plan on using eagle 6.8 rods with wiesco custom jobs also will be looking hard at scats new 6.8 chevy rod seems to just as strong with a 15 gram savings also price starts at 399 per set the're starting to have a strong chevy following.

So are us saying that with everything being equal, the 464 would be just as fast as the 470 throught the 1/4 mile.
If so what if you add in TA,s new aluminum heads on the same set up would it still be no advantage to the 470.

What I am saying is that if you built the engines totaly identical, a 464 and a 470, both using the smae rods , pistons, heads, adjusting the deck height so they both had the same compression, I doubt you'd see any performance one way or the other. I mean we are only talking 6 cubic inches here.
The 470 we built, we offset groung the crank just because, we were already turning it down to the 2.2 inch journal anyway, we just felt like pushing all the inches we could out of it.
The engine made 718 horsepower with a solid cam and alum TE heads. Jim Burek

I like using the 6.8 inch rods, it does let you shorten up the piston a bunch. We even did a 464 with 7.1 inch rods, I did not see any additional benefit on this engine over a 6.8 inch rod motor. Jim Burek
