cowl screens

Has anybody bought a good cowl screen from the aftermarket? I got one from CARS and it is too narrow. If you "capture" it under the hood to cowl seal it doesn't reach back to the little squares where the h-clips go. Am I missing something or is this just another example of aftermarket junk?

I had what looked to be screen-type material on my 1970 skylark, as compared to the larger square 3-piece units.
I went to the hardware store, and got the black mesh screen used for windows/doors.
Not the complete metal type, but the stuff that was more flexible so it would not kink, etc.
Traced the outline from the existing cowl mesh, and cut out the placements for holes.
Worked great. Looks great (like stock).

Thanks K. I am working on a customer's car who did just what you described. The concours judges picked up on it and deducted a point at the Nationals. He has hired us to fix everything they took points for so I am trying to go back original or reproduced original as it were.

Oops. Makes sense. It's all about keeping these glorious machines on the road.

Nobody said anything about mine yet (after 2 years), but then again, I'm not (nor plan to be) at Nationals. :)
I guess local shows are just fine for me and my summer driver.

But once you locate, post it here please. Perhaps for future use.
I assume you looked into Parts Place, and OPGI too? Or are they all the same *^*&!@?

I have one from OPGI and one from CARS and they are the same. I hate to try another place because I am sure they all come from the same manufacturer. I might call TPP and see if they will measure one front to back to see if it is the same as what I have. I'll let you know how it turns out.

TPP screen is wrong! I have one rolled up in a box on the shelf to prove it! It is a more heavy gauge material than the original screens.
