As time goes by, it get's more costly by the day to have a car
    painted, a quality job anyway's.

Trying to get an idea of what it cost's in your area to get a nice
paint job done. I'm just curious to see how much the price of
the job can vary in different part's of the country, as well as
maybe getting an idea from small town price to "big city" price?

Give me a cost for an overall job, a scuff and spray-no bodywork,
    no door jamb's?

How about stripped to bare metal, paint everything(jamb's)?

In my area, I would have to say a scuff&spray $2500-3500

Stripped bare, everything painted $5000-$7500:eek2: :Dou:

The low end would be a car needing no bodywork, plus the
smaller independant bodyshop price, the higher price would be
the car requiring more work, bigger bodyshop.

Just something to talk about? This B.B. is dead, where the heck
    is everyone:Do No:

  2. around a $2000, strip prime and paint considering light body work to be done
frame off complete $12000-$15000. with alot of body work , new panels and everything done new.
paint job i am doing now is costing about $1500
ppg paint enamel. metal flake. clear coat. complete strip to metal and body work done and also used expensive uro primer for the job and wet sanded to 600 grit. between primer coats
    smoothy

I'm getting estimates right now in the 3k to 6k range (pretty big range) To paint mine. It's 90% bare...I left the jambs and under the deck lid alone. Very little body work. I think that's pretty high considering I stripped the thing. 3k is a Maaco:Dou:

Near DC - the CHEAPEST quality paint job I could find is $2500. Not counting the MAACO/ES places...:blast:

    Time is a big factor

I think the price range is affected greatly by how quick do you want it back. I got my 68 W30 done for just under $6k from a friend moonlighting from his full time body shop (at a dealership), but it took him almost 2 years. This was a bare frame and bare body shell with all the panels media blasted before he got them. Minimum bodywork. Would probably cost $8k to a non friend or in a hurry (have to schedule in at the dealership).

My 66 442 is going to be right around $4k, same setup, probably take 2 years again. This is a complete disassembly (body still on frame), including trim removal and reinstallation, etc. and more rust repair surgery that I thought it needed (found some in the window areas caused by the vinyl top.) Would be $6k in a hurry or to a stranger, probably $7500 through the dealership.

Sure not cheap, but these are flawless show quality jobs. Cars merit it, why cut corners. Biggest problem now, is all the used trim, bumpers, etc. that looked pretty good before, now don't get it with the body and paint that nice. Mega $$$.

There outta be a law against putting dingy trim on a quality paint job.

    OOPS

 Agreed, but it sure gets expensive in a hurry.

This was supposed to be a response to Tom Miller's ??? on quality paint jobs, but somehow I started a new thread. Oh well.

Yea, that's sad, but true. Moparts has been going down hill for over a year. It USED to be the premier Mopar site. Now it's just the biggest. It now belongs to a certain elite few that feel they can do whatever they want. And the they have the moderators' support in doing so. Mainly involving posts surrounding a certain female board member and her little "gang". That is why I quit being a moderator over there. They were running a self-admitted double standard, and I don't play that game.

Now back to our regularly schedule post topic.............a guy I know dropped off his 428SCJ 1969 Mustang at the shop that did my paint 4 years ago. I paid $5000 to have mine done back then. I gave them a shell that had the trunk and engine compartment, interior, and door/hood/trunk undersides media blasted. They stripped the old paint off the body. All done in base coat/clear coat. It needed body work on one rear quarter. The rest is all original steel. My buddy's Mustang is going to be done in the $8000 price range. He took NOTHING off the car. It needs all sorts of body work and he will have the door jambs and under hood/trunk sprayed as well. For a "scuff and shoot" with no jambs done, they operate in the $2000 price range.

Olds site went the same way. Most of the serious racers and performance people are either gone or have been silenced by the highly offensive "New Wave".

    cost of paint jobs

Hi guys, One of the reasons for the price is one the amount of labor involved with a complete strip and paint and two, the cost of materials. I work in the refinish industry and in 20 years paint and materials have gone up from about $100 to about $2,000. I cost about 500-750 dollars per panel in a good reference point. Reds generaly cost more for most domestic paint companies. Dupont, PPG, and SW. The European paints Spies Hecker, Standox, Glasurit and Sikkens generaly have one set pricing. The cost of raw materials in the world keep going up and up and when oil goes up, the cost of anything petrolum based goes up. Sandpaper and tape cost are up also. A roll of say 3M 6" 80-# grit sandpaper can cost around $80 a roll. That's aabout 100 sheets. we all know it doesn't take long to go through 100 sheets. Plus you'll need 36, 80, 18-, 320,400, 1000,1500, 2000 grits to work on the car. Some polishing pads cost $30 a piece. Compounds are $100 a gallon. I did my own 69 Riv and I did it myself. Not a frame off and I had 700 hours on the car. At $40 a hr. thats $28,000 in just labor. I guess that's the price we have to pay for our beloved cars. I hope this helps. Good luck Chris deMik:beer

And some folks say oil's not worth fighting for. :Dou:

It even effects the price of the food going in our mouths.

before my brother and i painted the w31 ourselves,we had two guys come to his house and write us up some estimates on a repaint, nothing too detailed, just fix dents and paint the right green.

the first guy that came wanted 2500,the second guy wanted 4000,both were talking dent work and prep prime and paint ONLY,no stripping of old paint,or removal of trim.my own cousin owns a production body shop and told me nobody would even want to paint the car.he said he would do it for 5 grand,he needed that much to justify taking the space up in his shop.

we painted the whole car in my brothers garage after spending about 1200 bucks on a compressor, gun, supplies, paint, and beer and white castles for my brother to shoot the paint on.it took us two weeks, but it took two more weeks picking up all the white castle bags and coffee cups in the yard.

Mines gonna be in the 5-6g range, although he`s a friend, its going to take around two years to get it finished. This is a frame off, replace 1 quarter panel, try to align up the crappy NOS fenders, and paint the entire underside of the car. The problem I know have is the car is home for a little bit, while a 69 442 hogs up his body rotissery, the 442 has been on the rotissery for a year now,but its his cousins car,and....well you know when you work with a family member....... I think I need to light a fire under him,and get him moving:Brow:

BTW this is how the car is now in my avatar

We may do the R/T ourselfs. For sure we will do the bottom, jambs, trunk, engine bay, ect and mabey have a pro do the outer panels. The car is pretty damn straight now with a pretty new blue paint job on it that never got completed. I would hope I could get the outer body done for $2500-$3000:Do No:

New quarters, new doors, rebuild the dash, paint the interior, weld up the trunk floor, 3 coats of base, 5 coats of clear.. under 10K Canadian. That's about 6K US. Got really lucky.
