I see OPGI offers reproductions but lists two different codes for the same models, best I can figger.

    Code BR:
"Decal, 69 Skylark, Air Cleaner, GS350, GS400, 6485044, Keep your GM car all GM"
    decal-69-skylark-air-cleaner-gs350-gs400-6485044-keep-your-gm-car-all-gm-sdb0442.jpg

    Code BA:
"Decal, 69 Skylark, Air Cleaner, GS350, 400, HD, 6485070, Keep your GM car all GM"
    decal-69-skylark-air-cleaner-gs350-gs400-6485044-keep-your-gm-car-all-gm-sdb0442.jpg

My car is a September 1968 build, 4-speed, if that matters.

    So which do I want?

One is probably for a regular air filter element and the other would be for the heavy duty filter element.

    Either should work fine.

I think the "BA" was the regular filter element.

They actually list the reverse -- BA has an "HD" in the description, BR does not...

When did what model with what engine get a heavy duty filter element as opposed to a regular filter element?

(never afraid to show my ignorance.)

That's probably good...heavy duty was an option that had to be ordered. It would have been listed on the build sheet, window sticker or dealer invoice.

    Yes,
Brad is correct. The HD filter elements were an option and were listed on the build sheets. I can probably count the number of times I have seen them listed on one hand.

By the way I just looked up the 69 info in the assembly manual,
"BR" is the standard air filter for 69, and
"BT" is the HD air filter for 69

I think "BA" was used for the 70 cars, but would need to check it out.

Out of the 50+ cars I've owned, exactly 2 came with the heavy duty air cleaner. A '70 GS455 and a '70 Estate Wagon.

Need help from the experts, so confused?
Which is the correct 1970 GS 455 stage 1 standard air cleaner " keep your GM car all GM' decal? I have two original 70 GS stage 1 cars but that decal is missing on both. I cannot find any reference picture anywhere? I tried to look through this site and could not find the answer?
The assembly manual says BD for standard and BX for heavy duty. The manual reads for all except GS Riviera. I was told that means GS and Riviera not Riviera GS?
I was told the correct one was BC but I read that as a 350? I was told the 400 is a typo as of course no 1970 400 was built and use for all GS decal BC standard or BU for heavy duty? Sorry everyone I am new to the site, hope I did not open a can of worms and there is a simple answer?

@rick roll I know old thread here, but did you figure out what you needed? I'm in the same boat. I have a 1970 GS Stage 1 but with a HD air cleaner and was sold a BX sticker. But I am now questioning that BU is the correct one needed?

So I guess my question is,
For a 1970 GS 455 Stage 1 with Heavy Duty air cleaner, is BX or BU the correct sticker to install?

    Thanks,
    Nick

I would order 1 of each and stick on both. That way you are covered when it comes to judging. Let them figure it out.

    Nick,
I did get the right answer, but I am traveling and before I respond I want to be sure which one we determined. I copied Todd from Stage1 restoration so if he can respond that would be great. Todd has the correct ones and work perfect. I get all my parts from him as he is really knowledgeable and does fantastic work.
Unless he replies I will let you know next week.
I do know very few came with HD air cleaner, make sure yours came with one? I was also told the judges will not take off points for either?

BX is for the standard 455 with Heavy Duty filter.

BU is for the 455 Stage 1 with Heavy Duty filter.

I have these on my websites "Emblems Page" and are all listed accordingly. I get most of these from Mark now as his are better quality and have the correct part numbers.....unlike some others on the market.

just so you know,hd air cleaner vs reg air cleaner was the filter and the only difference was the hd filter had more pleets.there are some people selling the ac delco versions on ebay and you can see the difference...so as long as the sticker is for your year and model i wouldnt sweat the small stuff
