going forward is alway good news!!! Praying for you and your family!! Its good to have your boys and family helping out at times like this!! Jim
Bruno, thanks for the update.. No need to ask for the prayers - We Never stopped. Hang in there buddy, I think of you every day. Saying "GET WELL SOON" Doesn't seem enough. I know they say God has a plan for everyone, But I don't understand his methods sometimes. You have been blessed with a good family and strong support system, all steming from a love that they have for you. I can't wait till the day you get to come home, and see you in person. I miss you man, I know we will see you soon. Love Tim , Rhonda and Nichole
I spoke with Terry Simpson for a while today, I'd just add that it's a long road to recovery for Pete. They get good news some days, and not so good on others. The news trickles out only because there is not much to tell, and any bit of news, good or bad, is tempered by the roller coaster Pete is on. He's got a fierce spirit, and the new heart has been accepted. the meds to keep the body from rejecting the heart invite all kinds of infection, what Pete is going through is not uncommon. Again, if you think you might have any parts that someone else can use, sign a donor card.
4 years ago my Dad fell on some ice and broke his neck and died immediatly. I went with the ambulance and they brought him to hospital right away. He had a donor drivers license and I told them about it at the hospital. He was in perfect health with 20-20 no glasses vision. He was 80 years old. When the hospital checked into the donation process about his eyes, they told me in Minnesota if you are 65 years or older, they cant use any donated parts, even if you have it on your drivers license! Terrible rule. You would think any good parts, even old parts, are better than none? Crazy rules!!!! Jim
I like the race a lot, and love the people. When you go to the PSD for the first time you think it's about putting your car out there and just going fast. You quickly figure out that it is a small part of what it's about. It is about the kindling of relationships while being a part of something in its own way historic. Peter has been there from the beginning and you quickly find he is less about the drag racing and more about the human side of this hobby. He is a true friend. I look forward to more great conversations after his recovery. In the mean time, I pray and hope for only good things for the Simpson family as this holiday approaches. If I could get Santa to take back any gifts for Peters health, the Lerum family is in. We wish everyone on the board a great holiday, but most of all ,may the Simpson get their health back. Jim
Think of Pete and his family every Sunday when we recite The Lord's Prayer in church and even while on stage singing The Lord's Prayer for a benefit concert last Sunday night.
I was just asking Jim Lerum about Pete the other day...Pete was one of the first guys i meet many years ago when i hauled my chevy nova from Florida to a purestock race in Norwalk.pete welcomed me and my dad and even offered to let us borrow an extra fuel pump,if needed..am praying for ya buddy. hang tough.Chris

Happy New to you and your family Pete. Keep plugging along, it's going to be nice to be done with 2012.
Here are some updates that I recenlty received from Peter's sister Mary. Peter is still in ICU, he is very aware and sometimes become<var id="yiv1613510579yui-ie-cursor"></var>s agitated when trying to communicate. The family is learning about the phases and time lines from other successful heart transplant recipients who are walking around enjoying life 24 months later. Peter is enduring a tough chapter in his life but there have been worse cases - which is somehow reassuring. Peter has muscle loss and decreased motor skills dues to inactivity for over 50 days. He will need lots of physio. Peter has a tracheotomy and practices breathing without out it for short periods of time to strengthen his lungs. They watch his white blood cell count closely and many other indicators. Vicky and Peter and the family ask you to keep the prayers coming their way. Prayer is working well. Peter enjoys hearing the voices of his friends. If you are able send a 60 second audio clip to Ross Snider <rossnider@xplornet.com> and / or Eric Simpson <eric_simpson@live.com>, they will play them for Peter on their iphones during visits. This is a great way to connect with Peter without visiting in person. Video clips will work too. If you would like to leave a message of good cheer, for Vicky, call 519 287 3138 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 519 287 3138 end_of_the_skype_highlighting in the afternoon or evening while she is at the hospital. She looks after Peter from 2 pm - 10 p.m., and does her work in the morning.
