    buickman70 I pirated this pic!!!

That will be cool Len. I think I will use the late 70's Panasonic AM/FM cassette player with built in CB(so when I am hauling a$$ on the interstate I can ask the truckers where the troopers are:grin: ) that came in a parts car I had.

Imagine the looks I'll get when I pass people in the old Buick with a magnetic CB antenna on the trunk lid.

On my stage 1 hardtop, I put a sony cd player under the drivers seat and left the stock radio in the dash. the Sony has a wireless remote so all you need to do is aim at your feet and the signal bounces to the stereo...works great.

I make my own cd's so usually once they are in I just let them play anyway....

    69GS400s ...my own amusement ride!

At one time, I had these speakers mounted to the backside of the rear seat with a bracket - cover them in interior vinyl and they'd look like a rear seat head rest !!!

In the front, I mounted a set of 1" tweeters INSIDE the dash vents.....it doesn't really affect the flow of air that much either !!

One of the smaller Tube subs fits under the top on the back shelf even when its down:TU:

...and of course an A/C Dash pad in a Non A/C car is a great place to mount your head unit while keeping the Sotcker in place

I've always known that the rear could house a factory speaker - always wondered how it sounded.

Well, you are right on the factory rear speaker location on conv. I have 4 A-body conv. Here is what I did and you can make the choice on what to do for your car. If you remove the kick panel you will see a small well about 6x8 with a 3" wide metal bar going across it. I used a plasma cutter or jig saw to remove the metal bar. Installed a pair of 6" rounds in the holes (one per side). You can perforate the kickpanel or cut the matching 6" dia hole in the panel. You can usually get kick panels cheap.

As for the rear, the factory location is terrible esp with the top down. You should not install the speakers in the armrests since the hydraulic cylinders pivot within the armrests and you will have to use shallow speakers to clear the hydraulic cylinders. Also, those conv rear armrests are not cheap. I ran an amp for the rear speakers, 6x9s, and made a small box with the speakers laying horizontally in the box. I also use "quick connects" to remove the rear box when I have 4 women in the car (I can dream, can't I) that way the box will go into the trunk while not in use. I hid the amp in the same area as the conv pump, always out of sight and out of the way. I covered the box with matching black carpet. Great sounds and the speakers point forward so you have good acoustics. When the rear box is not in use, the front speakers sound great. Just some ideas!

FYI... I have 73 Fisher Body Manual. The speaker diagram shows that two 6X9 shaped holes should be cut in the well liner where the tw0 speakers mount facing the rear bumper. Adam, I think the rear window defogger unit should be inside the convertible top well not under it. If it is under the well a rectangular shaped hole should be cut out of it as well so the dry air is not blocked. The defogger may have a removable face plate. I'm considering something like the attached photo.

I do this now (picked up some vidsonix 3way 6x9 speakers) in grey carpeted boxes sitting on the seats. they work really well. I also have an abnormally deep convertible boot well and i can toss them in there and fold the top over them If i want to.

My speakers are mounted in the rear arm rest area in my 67 conv. I would like to upgrade to 6x9's. My 69 dont have any music yet, it's killing me.
